Has anyone ever installed one of these on a MPC/Fundimentions ALCO. The instructions talk about lifting the circub board to expose the screw terminal for the wire leads from the pickup and common ground but these engines have no circut board. I think I isolated the two wires but I will have to solder one because it has no screw terminal. It connects right to one of the brushes on the motor. Also I don’t think there is enough room for the 2 inch speaker on the chassis. In the instructions it shows one option of securing the speaker to the roof of the shell with two sided tape. Just wanted some input before a spend 50.00 on the unit.
Steve, If you don’t get a response tonite, even if you do, I would suggest dropping an e-mail to ERR with your question. I’d give you my input except they used my portrait on the cover of “Electronics for Dummies”. As far as the speaker is concerned my RMT BEEP w/TMCC has the speaker mounted w/tape to the interior roof of the cab. I am not familiar with that loco but are there fuel tanks below the frame where the speaker could be housed ?
They used a Beep as an example in the instruction manual online and did the same thing with the speaker. I cut a template out of cardboard the same size as the speaker and it seemed to work. I know that they didn’t use the supplied baffle in that application. It looks like the width of the cab shell will be OK but I just don’t know how thick or deep the speaker is. It would be really cool to have this old engine of mine actually making sounds. Talked to the guy from ERR on the phone and he didn’t think there would be any problems. Thanks man.
I can tell right now there will be no way to get the baffle in there. The 2 in. template I cut out just fits. Looks like I wil have to do what they did in the manual and just use some two sided tape and stick it right to the roof of the shell. After its in there I might be able to modify the baffle or use something else If it don’t sound right.
My bad Steve it is 2.0850. This is what I get for rushing. Sorry for the trouble. I ran out to the garage to get my calipers so I would have an exact dimensions for you. Saw that my neighbor needed some help getting some things in the house. Told him I would be right back when I got some shoes on. Figured I could give you a quick answer also and messed it up trying to rush. As soon as I saw the 2.8 dimension I knew it was wrong. Hope it will fit now.
