I am planning my 12 X 8 layout that is 2 sheets of plywood. I am interested in layouts that have elevated lines but if I put an elevated line in my layout i want grades to connect it to the rest of the layout. Is there a plan that I could have space underneath the elevated line still with grades and have it operate functionally or should I just make the plan all level. I am stuck in planning this layout
With the amount of space you will have it should be no problem to have a bi-level layout. Check the back issues of Classic Toy Trains and some of the layout books for ideas.
Bi-Level adds visial interest (as well as addiitonal track). Grades to connect them may be another story. Reasonable grades consume large amounts of space, often 15-20 linear feet to raise track just 6", and a similar distance to get back down.
