Elevated Loop over loop

Can anyone help me with a plan to build a loop over a loop totally elevated track. This would be running one train (Lionel O gauge track) over the other around the whole layout.

Tell me how (plans) to build the elevated part to mount the track on.

I would repost this over in the Classic Toy Trains forum, thats the forum dedicated to O gauge Lionel trains, they could help you much better.[:D]

I’d agree. While the theory of building an elevated track is the same, in practice there are a lot of differences between HO, N and O gauges. The important thing is the much larger stresses imposed by the larger O stuff. The Classic Trains gang will be much more familiar with this. Also, there are manufacturers in each gauge who would have pre-made parts, but once again, different companies supply the different scales.

It gives Helix and backbone construction methods . How to figure grades. use for staging.

Hope this helps. I found it in Wall Mart but check www.ModelRailroader.com

to save from creating a whole new thread, I actually have to do this on my layout. The track will be on the edges of the layout; the upper track visible and the lower underneith, in the tunnel. I wanted to have cut-outs in the backdrop so that I can reach in in case something derails inside the tunnel, but I’ve been stumped as to the best way to go about doing this. I was thinking of simply building a foam ‘box’ over the track, and having the top affixed to the backdrop to form the vertical support on that side. Do you think this would be strong enough?
