From msnbc.com, today, May 13, 2009. Here’s a link from msnbc homepage. Sorry not to include the whole text but it kept OOPS’ing here in Gen. Disc. when I tried to cut and paste.
Thank you for reminding me what the economy means to trainwatching. I must remember that for railroaders; the railroad is a pay check, for me it is hobby. I drove over to Elkhart to see the NYC museum and I was reminded of how radically railroading has changed since the 1950’s. What they say in wedding vows, for better or worse, for richer for poorer, applies to Northern Indiana railroading. I miss the Erie.I stopped to watch an Erie Lackawanna freight in April of 1972 as it went under the US 30 bridge in Griffith.I didn’t know that this would be the last time I would see an E-L train.
Sorry for any redunancy. The link came from one of my news services, thru msnbc. The story was dated May 13, so I guess I didn’t stop to think that could have been anything other than that day’s date (as opposed to date of original release or publication).
FWIW there have been a decent number of views made to this thread. - allen
