Elliot´s Trackside Diner - May 2014 Edition

A hour since the last post.

Suppose to be 100 today and it feels like it, hottest day of the year so far. Santa Anna winds is why.
At the National Day of Prayer breakfast at the big church I go to we had ham, eggs, potatoes, real good gravy , and some vegtables.
A lot of women are vegatariens and as I was leaving I saw a lot of the ham left on plates. There going to throw them in the trash, broke my heart that I coulden’t go around and salvage those ham slices but that would be socially unacceptable.
I’ve been reading in the paper about the unbelievable wasted food that gets thrown away at our taxpayer provided public school breakfast and lunches.

Good evening guys

Work was really busy today. Guess people are getting their end-of-the-month checks. Been busy chipping at some other projects. I got stopped on a few because I realized I’m out of stuff. My father took my double-sided duct tape, so I can’t finish the few car kits I’m building… Then come the fact I ran out of .5mm drill bits, so I can’t install some brass stirrups I wanted to put on a few cars…

Ken, Actually I haven’t had an issue with that SD40-2 I got from you other than needing a new motor… It’s actually one I bought.

Jerry, long time no see.

Evening guys,

Not much going on here, just watching the Jays vs Royals game. Might get a game of strat o matic in.

Ray: What part of Ontario are you coming to? dont know if your my way.

Jerry: Good to see you in, have you been watching any Cardinals or cubs games yet this year?

After all today’s activity I’m pretty sore. I walked the distance of several football fields which for me is a long way. Don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight despite being tired. Maybe I should leave some junk computer parts out. Who knows? Maybe I’ll devise a method of interfacing a //e with a modern pc. I did that back in the 80’s through a simple cable connection and a modem jumper but back then pc’s were glorified desktop calculators and the //e was an overpriced electric typewriter.

Time for me to try and get some sleep. See y’all tomorrow.

Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and may need so help lifting it.

I am just beat, need to be in bed soon. Was half way busy today but while I had good sales noithing with any spiffs on them. I have yet to beat draw, in other words make any commission on sales based on volume of sales. When I do say I made say $115.00 like yesterday, I real should say what I sold had spiffs on them that paid me the $115.00.

Got home at 9:00 PM becsues of a late customer. Well they did not come in late, they where in the store at 6:00 PM. But it kept dragging on and on and on. Finllaly had there ticket done at 7:50 PM and we close at 8. Then I had to do the paper work and so forth. Total for the day was around $2370.00 which for this company is pretty good! That in it self is a sad statment. [sigh] Marv is 81 and Nancy is 71, they don’t run any advertising unless they are closing a store, then the sales sky rocket! I have been there 8 months and they are now closing the second store of the 6 they had when I was hired. I hope Marv will figuer it out that ads bring in customers and it does not have to be Going Out Of Business Ad’s!

Bear, yep that Lego House was something like the one I was dreaming about. I have no clue why a Lego house would ever come to me like that is a dream.

Later, Ken

Evenin’ folks!

Janie, a cup of hot decaf coffee would be very nice right now…

[color=red]Jeremy[/color], the convention is being put on by the International Division of the NFR, NMRA. It will be held at the wine college in Niagra on the Lake. Right across the border. Only a few kilometers from the Lewiston Bridge.

I think I have everything packed that I can get packed tonight. Shouldn’t take long to pack my meds, the CPAP Machine, and make sure my passport is in my shirt pocket tomorrow morning… I have my speech pretty much written… Have to wait un til I talk to one of my members, who is going, to see if his layout will be open for our Convention in 2015. His is the layout featured in NCE Ads. We will have a tour of the NCE Facilities during the 2015 convention, BTW.

I think I best call it a day folks, the next few days will not include a lot of sleep… I probably will stop in tomorrow before I head to the convention. I will be taking my old laptop so I may be able to post while I’m there, and maybe I won’t…

Prayers for all in need!

Well, I have today off, so I think I may make a trip to the local Hobby shop. I am at a little bit of a standstill for my section of the club layout. I’ve finished up my scrapyard (I’ll post a photo tonight), and still working on a huge bridge 6ft long (only one half-relief structure to block a hole in the wall), and cut an access hole into the area next to the scrapyard. You see when the layout is finished, there will be an oil tank farm sitting in front of the junkyard. The junkyard sits about 4ft back from the aisle and has rail service-I need to sand down some of the ballast also. So yeah I cut a small panel that was just big enough to pop up on the other side, and I need to figure out what I am going to disguise the panel as. Should I keep it as a mountain, or keep the mountain out and put a couple streets/buildings with the Cornerstone road series, put some stores/homes up,etc and keep the access panel as a section of town that I could superdetail? Well, at least it is a fun/enjoyable problem. I’ve also got a haircut tonight (No more looking like a hippie!) and another work session at the club tonight-so yeah I have a decent day ahead.

Good Morning…

Kind of dull and dribbly here this morning…posta get some sun later on…high in the low 60’s…[swg]

Off to get blood work done then get some more scrips …sheeesh…[banghead]

Then to get some more wire for the layout…I burnt some yesterday…still trying to figure out the why part…[:-^]

Good Afternoon!

It´s rather dull outside - just like at Barry´s place. The wind makes it even more miserable.

I did not get much sleep last night and now I feel up to nothing. I will take a break today, just hang around. I bet you could knock me out with a feather today.

Maybe some strong coffee will help. Chloe, if you please …

Blessings to all!

Good morning. It’s 56° with 81% humidity. The high will be 75° and it’ll be cloudy.

Still pretty sore this morning. I did manage to get some sleep last night. No unexplained work or completed projects this morning so at least I stayed in bed.

Home health nurse will be coming today. No idea what time yet.

No plans for today as of yet.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a breakfast burrito please. Thanks.

Partly sunny, with a high near 62.

Good to see Jerry stopped in.

Got into the trainroom yesterday to do a bit of cleaning up. Not much got done, because I got a bit sidetracked and put some rock formations on. Yup…, worked a bit on the old layout[Y]. Now, if only that would happen more often. BUT today I have to mow and get some things ready for the all town garage sale tomorrow. Don’t know why we’re involved, don’t want to sell our garage and we don’t have room for another one.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!

On another forum under The Aging of the Hobby Martin H said that York looks like God’s Waiting Room. York Pennsylvania is the biggest O gauge 3 rail show in the world. People travel long distances to go to it.
So do car shows now.
If there is any V8 Hot Rods at all around here any more their kept in garages and only driven to events. A couple of decades ago Hot Rod magazine monthly circulation was 1 million.

Mornin’ everyone!

Zoe, I’ll have a waffle this morning with lots of real NYS Maple Syrup, a sausage patty, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee for my FGLK Mug, please and than k you Ma’am.

I’ll be taking off to go to Canada fairly soon. May not get back in here untill Sunday evening although I am taking the laptop with me so I can make some last minute changes on my talk about the 2015 Convention. I hope they will have a printer that I can use to print it out if I do have to make any changes…

Currently 49°F with a high around 58°F this afternoon. Cloudy out there and showers are happening now and then. Nothing big, but a dark and gloomy day. Went down cellar last night to turn off the lights in the train room and found the workshop had a flood again due to the rain we got. I started the siphon and will again before I leave.

Have a good one!

I need a shot of bourbon!

I think maybe it’s time to take a hiatus from these forums for awhile. I just got back from Carson City and the whole time going there and coming home…stops included, I spent that 3 hours seething about the subject of a thread from this morning. I was right there and completely understanding with the OP…and said so then went on with a few additional comments.

I know it’ll rub many people the wrong way…but when are we going to stop being like the little dog that rolls on the floor and wets itself when excited or challenged.

It’s not that the MR manufactures aren’t making money…the big names in particular, are…they are just not making enough money to suit themselves. Pretty classic thing these days. Farm it all off to China so they can pocket more profit and…support the economy of another country. It’s called greed!

Model railroading IS becoming ‘A Rich Man’s Hobby’ more than ever.

Sorry for my griping…but it’s only a matter of time till I’ll be priced right out of the hobby.

Wow, sure is super quiet around the diner today. Weird to say the least [sigh]

Not a heck of a lot here to report either. Not doing much except looking after my wife who is still pretty much still under the weather. If she isn’t showing signs of improvement soon, it’s back to the Dr.

I haven’t had to be chief cook and bottle washer for quite some time so I’m sort of out of practice but I did note that it all coming back real fast.

I did manage to get the yard cleaned up, lawns fertalized and the waterfall running so that’s done. We had 3 days of + 20 sunny calm weather so it was a good time to do it. Today, is a different story as are the next 4 days. Forcast is for lots of rain, below normal temps as in back to the zero’s and 2 inches of sn*w. [:(!]

So glad it’s May, yeh right.

Been watching a fair bit of House MD on netflix to pass the time. Sort of hooked on it and that my friends is strange for me because I normally watch about 1 hr a day of TV. Spend most of my leisure time reading normally. Who knows.

Oh yes, the new car/suv or whatever it is now has… wait for it… a whole 197 km on it. About now I’m wondering why we ever need a car but then this isn’t normal around here right now. I will say this, it’s a boring vehicle but most of them are nowdays. Glad I’ve got the Fire Bird for the summer. At least I enjoy driving it just because it’s a fun car.

Currently waiting for supper to cook in the oven. Everything else is ready. Anyway that’s about it from my little part of the world. Take care all.

Dennis

I was looking around on Ebay today and came across an Apple IIe enhanced motherboard up for auction. The bid at that point was below $2 but the auction had six days to run. Below the auction info was a buy it now price of $20. Shipping was $6. I read all the information on it. Clean, tested, working. Those were the only three words I needed. These things usually sell for $60+, some in questionable shape go for around $40. This one looks to be in great shape so I snapped it up while I could. It’ll be added to my parts inventory. Deals like this don’t come along every day.

I hear you on that Dennis. Sometimes there will be something that gets me hooked on TV but for the most part all I watch is baseball hockey or football. Id rather spend free time reading or playing a game of some sort or working on the railroad.

Well seeing as its almost midnight I should get to bed, just in the last hour or so I have got a pounding headace. Will finsih browsing up here and over at one of my strat o matic sites then call it a night.

Chamomile tea in an Undecorated cup, please.

***Johnboy, continued healing thoughts for you, and now your next door neighbor as well.

***Jerry, always good seeing you in the Diner. Sure has been awhile. Hope you come back more often.

***Ray, Manét is a handsome cat. Indeed some of then absolutely do know such things.

***Ulrich, you seem to work rather quickly. Looks good.

Have a good night all.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Only thing to report on is that I have a memory card that wants to stay dead. It’s a 128k AE Memory master. Half of it works, the other half doesn’t. Replacing the chips just gives me a blank screen. Of well, into the reject box it goes. It would make a nice piece for a display but that’s about it.

Home Health nurse came today and changed the wound vac dressing. She did her job too well. The dressing is sealed so tight the vac can’t work and keep giving me shutdown alarms, blockage alerts and pressure loss alarms. Any of those will shut it down. Tomorrow I’ll be going to my fathers place and put a new dressing on it myself.

Time for me to call it a night. See y’all tomorrow.
