We have reached our new track. The switcher has been uncoupled and Chloe, Flo and Zoe are glad to welcome you at the new location. Vinnie went off to buy some supplies - I wonder what he is up to. Flo just told me that he will be buying a sign “No Catapults Allowed In Here!” [:D]

Gotta take Brenda to get the company car serviced in Sherman after the trucks load out. The manager wants no discrepencies if the car needs warranty work so he has a “real shop” do the oil changes. LOL, oh well, can’t say I blame him and glad he does if there ever was a to be a dispute. Doubt it though. Then bookwork for the church. Then hopefully home to… not gonna say it. Then work at 4.

It’s raining and I’m thinking of redesigning my whole Empire.[banghead] Well, except for that one part.[swg]

Good morning. It’s 36 and sunny. That barbed wire fence between here and the north pole has done fell down again. The high is projected to hit 65 and it will be clear and sunny.

Nothing special happening today, just another day with my feet up most likely. I may get some light layout work done as well. There’s still some stuff to be cleared off and put away.It’s amazing how little it takes to clutter things up. I have everything I need to put the diner in place on the layout. Now I just have to get to the point that I can gey under the layout to the larger of the two access holes (the park in this case) to do the work. That will also give me a chance to clean the AC filter. Maybe in another week or two.

… this one is for you, Jeff - just for you. Don´t even let the chow hounds take a sniff…

Zoe I’ll have a nice big slice of the cherry whatever it is THAT Ulrich brought in this morning to go along with a pot of dark roast coffee in a FGLK cup. I’ll go sit in the front booth and enjoy the new view. Sure was classy to see this old girl moving the diner!

As Barry said about the weather! We have dark, gray, a bit of fog, and lots of rain today here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 54°F outside under a flood watch… Got just under a half inch of rain last night.

I see Zoe bringing my breakfast so I’ll be busy for a bit. Catch you all a bit later!

Jim, Keith - I’m sure someone else will have answered your question by now, but on the icing platforms, somebody in here (Lee, maybe?..) posted drawings of the building and platform for icing. Maybe they’ll see this and post the link for you again.

And in there, there is a book… or title… What is is And What It Does I think that might help… and for others out there. When I think of all the material I’ve read, I dont’ think I’ve done as much when I was in College.

Jeff, Thanks so much, I understand~! That was a great explanation of track wiring… and bus. I truly understand now… lol. I feel like its so valuable to the beginner, I also want to copy it word for word… and put it in my thread. But in truth, its more like Todd said:

“Aw don’t sweat it. Getting a couple of wires crossed is about the easiest thing to do when wiring a layout. Or doing anything to a layout except look at it for that matter. …”

Todd, exactly. But getting back to Jeff… and you~ All I wanted to do is hook up the wires… and check the flow of juice throught tracks… and see if I did it correctly. And so~ by hooking up the wires

Good morning. I thought we were getting close to moving.

Had to take the wife to a “walk in clinic” this morning. She hasn’t been feeling to good lately. She got some meds, and hopefully she will feel better.

Well…I guess I will post a picture of what I look like. I believe someone said awhile back to do that at the new move.

Not much to report on. Waiting on a load of hay to be delievered. The ground here is oozing water from all the rain. Tried 3 times to cross the middle of a pasture only to spin the tires in mud and have to use the loader to back out. OK Mother Nature, we’ve had enough rain now!

Afternoon folks…

Nothing good about it so far… Went to feed the kitties at noon time and I notice the mat I have their food dish on by the casing around where the chimney is is wet! Yep an old leak THAT I thought was fixed (and was for many years) has decided to open up again. So I expect a roofer here in about a half hour to 1. find out where the water is coming in, 2. how much it will cost to repair, 3. how long before he can do it (most likely today), and 4. how much damage has been done to the house.

Got down to the layout room long enough to turn on the heat and lights. No sooner started to do a little scenery and had just put some white glue in place when the phone rang and it was my son popping in to check on some moving stuff. he followed me down to the layout while I finished where I had the glue…

In fact I just remembered I haven’t washed out the brush… Later!

Ok… for all of you who are bored stiff, just dying to get your teeth into something New and totally exciting. I have been reading… and reading… if you told me my eyes are bleeding… I’d believe you~. I’m at the point now… where I have to make some … some more decisions. I am at a fork in the road … concerning my first staging area, I need to learn how… and decide if this is the correct method.

DC ONLY please no DCC. (DCC will be my next layout soon as I get this one done…lol) (Peco’s ONLY) But if you have a main line running… and a side rail also. Don’t you have a choice of what turnouts to use?

  1. If you use a Electro verses the Insul… doesn’t that cut off power to the main? And if you used a Insul… you would have power running through both… but could get by, by just cutting the rails? (I want to separate the power from the mains and from the yard)(diff.transformers)

  2. I have Electrofrogs… that I like for their looks… but would rather have the function of power running through both… with a cut in the rails to separate. I might need to re-wire them. Am I barking up the wrong tree here looking at this site? http://www.wiringfordcc.com/switches_peco.htm
    Or would it just easier to replace the Electro’s with Insul’s… and perform cuts.??? I’d appreciate any comments. I proabably don’t know what I’m talking about anyways.~ Thanks again… all of you! Sheesh, I work my first overnight shift and what do you do?!? You go and move the diner on me… lucky thing Ulrich was tossing remnants of one of the last catapults out the back as they went… or else I would not have found the place!!!

Speaking on that… Take a gander at my latest contraption!!! TaDa!!! A Dogapult!!! No pies in this baby! Only hot dogs and beans!!! (Don’t worry, it is only for display purposes… NOT a permanent fixture here)

Well, my first day running passenger service went rather well… With a few “happenings”… First, I get to Morrisville Yard and call the Yardmaster to get the track assignment for X392. He tells me that X392 has been replaced with 7880, and that it had just left not more than 10 minutes prior! Humph! So I ask him when and what is the next train to leave the yard. He tells me that it will be 3800 (A local train, makes ALL stops) leaving the yard at 12:44am. Train 3800 is the train I have to catch out of NY Penn to deadhead to Sunnyside yard, so that will not give me enough time to get all my paperwork and sign the register. So, I drive to Newark Penn, park on the street in a location that is used solely (and unofficially) by NJ Transit employees on jobs just like mine! Well, what do I see on ALL the rest of the cars parked on this little stretch, THE CLUB, every last one but mine! Obviously they are aware of something I wasn’t, THE CRIME RATE! (I’ll get back to my car, hopefully, later) Anyway, I catch the next train out of Newark Penn, to NY Penn (everyone with me so far? Ok.) I get there and head to the crew room arriving in the crew room about 1:40am ( I made DARN good time up the Turnpike, DON’T ASK, let’s just say I could probably qualify to drive one of Jims cars now! LOL) Anyway, I sit in the crew room and wait for the new Employee Register to be issued, sign in and gather all my required

Afternoon…

Roofer was here. I can choose from doing a temporary repair that will last a year or so ($75), replacing the chimney and repairing the main roof where it goes through ($450) which should last untill the roof needs replacing in a few years, Replacing the roof now with asphalt shinges ($5,950), or replacing the roof with a new style metal roof ($8,500)… I went with the $450 chimney replacement. Hopefully it will get done next week. He put more tar around all the seams up there as a temporary fix.

Good afternoon, I think… snowing here, not much but enough THAT there are now rollovers and multi-vehicle wrecks on my routes to tonight’s school board meeting. Gee…THAT just inspires a warm/fuzzy feeling of glee about the upcoming drive!

Yep, I’ve checked…no postponement, they already had to reschedule from last week (which cost me valuable hours on my paycheck…). Weather guessers are calling for “a healthy inch” of snow… No self-respecting school board of directors would cancel for THAT!

The very first snowfall of the year…I can almost, ALMOST understand people not knowing how to drive, having to re-learn a few things. It’s January. It’s the end of the month of January…and they’re still out there sailing along like it’s 80 degrees and sunshine???

WHY does it seem like our society in general has gotten stupid?

OK, there’s my rant for the day…

SAM: Wow…glad you finally caught up with your crew and THAT your vee-hickle was intact upon your return. Here’s hoping you have a lot easier and more relaxing trip into w**k tonight.
