Evening Gang: Well the puter is running a-ok for a change. Verison called this afternoon and said that they had found a problem with the way my modem was set and got it fixed on there end.
Rob the tractor is a Case International JX 80. They have sold a bunch of them here and this is the only one that has showed any problems like this. So far Case International has been really good about fixing things. The true test will be when I ask for a warranty extension. I’ve talked to the factory rep and he has said that C IH has given him abunch of mony to handle any thing that might come after the warranty expires but I’d like something in writting. I also must say that the dealer is really good. Of course I’ve only been doing business with them for the past 38 years.
Lee that’s great news about the steel mills. I haven’t seen anything on the Boatnerd news sight yet of course with the puter being down so much I haven’t been able to look at it. Great progress on the layout. I was happy to see that you haven’t put in tile on the ceiling. I’ve always felt guilty to have the jouists and heating ducts showing. What do you use for lighting?

Our MRR club - kinda like you were doing, Jeff - spent much of tonight’s meeting going around the layout and deciding how we wanted the buildings placed (so we could know where to have the roads, which therefore affects the backdrop). As one guy said “Now, do you see why it doesn’t w**k well to have one husband and multiple wives? Here we are, a bunch of chiefs, and look at the trouble we’re having…” [oops] Toughest thing of the time I was there, was where our tightest curve is located (on the interior ‘backside’ of the layout), and how to arrange the farm buildings. There’s a pretty dilapidated (spelling?) farmhouse kind of building, but the difficulty was which kind of silos to put with it. We have the newer blue and white ones like a dairy farm would have, as well as some corrugated siding bins (think Rix or Walthers). But we managed to get it ironed out…

Here’s one for the “It takes all kinds” book. I just got back from the Village Board meeting. I’ll spare all the details (sigh of relief comes over the room), but this transplant comes in late, right in the middle of some vote, and waves to the Mayor who nods and smiles to him. This he took as a que to begin stating his purpose. Now this guy and his wife and dogs live in the ONLY house on Lester street that wasn’t dstroyed or severely damaged. In fact I believe his house didn’t suffer at all, just his garage. Anyway he begins requesting, after describing where he lives and the people around him, that the village close the streets again to all, other than those who live there, because when he moved in in May the area was quiet with little traffic. Now there are cars and trucks all the time stirring up dust and driving his DOGS nuts with all the activity. Also he would like the village to hose down the streets to keep the dust down because it’s awful dusty there with all the stuff laying around from the storm and it LOOKS REALLY BAD. The mayor was polite and said he’d look into what could be done. Most in the room were speechless.

Paul- we had a Case IH dealer in nearby Greenview that was great like you described. Unfortunately he retired and the business closed about 2 or 3 years ago. Too bad.

The night was not good at all, I keep on having these anxiety attacks the moment I lay down to rest. It will probably change the moment we get kicked out of our house. When we have reached the bottom (which we apparently don´t have yet), then the only way is up again - hopefully.
Barry - when my days as an exchange student were coming to an end, the family I stayed with got a cute little baby tom cat. The little one always sat in front of the refridgerator waiting for someone to open it and get him a goodie. As they had observed this behaviour also with me, they named him

Got some clouds made yesterday and hope to get more made today. I have 8 homemade stencils to use for the job so I can mix them up if I want. Still shifting structures around a bit trying to find the right balance. It might be easier if it was a residential area. As it is it’s a small industrial area with some small businesses and few residences outside of a couple of small hotels. Yesterday I sorted through my boxcars on the layout and removed any that don’t fit the late 70’s - post 70’s. No roofwalks, high ladders, high brake wheels (alldoor cars excluded as tyhey have two, one high and one low) with the exception of MoW cars. In all, 14 boxcars are being dropped and will go into the storage container under the layout.

Paul, I painted the walls flat white (KILLZ) and I have two 100w compact florescent bulbs in the room. The problem with the main train room is the dark knotty pine panels; they give the room a tint of brown look even with three 100w compact fluorescents in the ceiling. I didn’t do anything with the ceiling in the “new” room because the furnace and hot water tank are right there. I also have dampeners in all of my furnace vents that allow me to zone the house and I wanted to maintain access to those. The PRR pellet terminal is over flowing with taconite. The dock serves the area and the steel mills in , but the fleets of hoppers have yet to arrive so I really don’t know when they plan to start shipping it out.
I’ll have the Eggs Cocotte for breakfast this morning with the cheese grits. Of course with some of Ed’s fresh OJ and a large cup a Joe in my Southern mug. Thanks Chloe! [dinner]

Took our cat Kitty to the vet last night, been having intestinal issues for a few weeks, leaving nice little packages all over the house, and some with blood. This morning was no different and hopefully the blood work will come back and the vet can give her some meds to fix the issue, still not sure what is going on at the moment other than possibly constipation. Hope she gets better soon.

Gooooooooooood morning. Just got off of work, and I need to change. I thought I would stop in here first.
Sold my CSX hopper I just did. So far my plan is still working. I might have two more cars today but sure tomorrow to do. A B&O (chessie 2-bay hopper, and a boxcar “forgot the name”). I also worked on the layout some yesterday. Laid some track on the upper part. Just a test run. I will work on it some more today.
**Ulrich…**Just keep your head up. We were at the bottom, but slowly working back up. It takes time, why…I don’t know. Sometimes it takes to long!!
**Barry…**I believe your “spring”, and my “hannibal” are long lost cousin’s. He parks himself in front of the fridge while we are cooking. After that he parks himself under you. Trying to get some crumbs.

Lee: I remember a fellow actually used a few cotton panels to hide his pine walls—actually worked enough that the brown shade he had in the room lightened considerably. The area that I have established in the basement has a similar kind of issue in that there is a corner that is showing up darker than the others—and thats with those lights----I’m getting some panels to see how that’ll work. As for the mills—good to see that getting active again[tup]

Sallie left at 8 this morning for MRI on Her hip she is in lots of pain hope to find out why…Not gonna find much time to work on trains today…You all have a good one…Jerry

***Paul, sounds like you just got a rare lemon and not a typical Case. Is that a 4 wheel drive with 80hp? I’ll bet Case International service is WAY better than JD’s. I wouldn’t trust JD repair folks to replace a tire, let alone actually work on any other part of the tractor. If you can’t tell, I’ve had nothing but BAD experiences with them. That being said, the original JD product is excellent.IMO

Need to finish the lawn this morning while it is cool and then go up to the County Hysterical Society and do a bit of research on street signs back in 1925… If time permits, I will also go to a Mac Store not too far from there and get a copy of OSX.5 while they still have them for my old G5 computer. The new OS coming out in just a few days is for Pentium powered Macs only. Since there are no more updates for OSX.3 and it is now not able to use such things as the latest version of Firefox and several other apps, I think the time has come. I like the desktop models better than the laptops for daily use, and I don’t want to shell out right now for a MacPro… So I best upgrade the OS.

That plan looks like a good one. The carfloat can act as off layout staging, and the plan is tight enough to cause you to think out your moves, but not so tight that it’s unworkable. Is that an actual prototype track arrangement, or something you came up with?
Philip - I would not want to call it prototype track, it follows the general orientation of ARR´s Whittier facilities. The track plan is a summary of some ideas which had different “fathers”, starting from Bob Smaus “Port of Los Angeles” of 1990´s and going to Stein (steinjr) of 2009, with whom I had an intense dialogue on planning a shelf layout earlier this year. The car float is supposed to act as a staging yard, and I plan to make it removable to simulate the arrival/departure of floats, allowing to" work" different trains.
I just finished with the parent’s yard. That took nearly 4 hours and it’s not quite finished yet. I have to go back and sweep some clippings away from the drains. I’m waiting for the clippings to dry out first. It’s much easier to get rid of them then. My sister’s mower is still not fixed. No surprise there.
I’ve been away from computers a few days while in Alabama for my Mom’s 90th b’day celebration. I’ll catch up on your posts later. We arrived at home at about 1:00 am last night.
The party was lovely. My Mom still plays the piano. Sadly we are dealing with a tough situation that sometimes happens with the elderly. My Mom has been scammed out of huge sums of money. We stayed in an extra day so I could meet along with my sister with police and lawyers. This is quite an emotional experience.
Meanwhile, we learned our church friend, Diane, the cancer patient, is worse off. She was moved to a hospice in . We’re sad about that.
Thanks to those who extended well wishes to Shelley for “the bite”. The treatment is working and it is healing.
