Elliot's Trackside Diner..MAY 2013!!

I was wondering why it was in my back yard!

*

Went to the loan place I do business with and refinanced my loan for a lower monthly payment. Got it lowered a bit and I’m happy with it. Don’t owe a payment until next month and didn’t need to pay anything this month so I put the money to some use. I don’t get this chance often. Got some stuff from Wal-Mart that I’ve been needing. Also did some digging around on the net and found two new Bachmann locos, a GP40 and a GP38-2, both PC and DCC. Picked them up at a good price. Also have two DZ125 decoders on the way. There’s three packs of Athearn geep diesel horns coming and some specially selected diesel rebuild parts. In two or three weeks I should be able to get started on rebuilding the Bachmann Spectrum/Plus GP40 I have. Also got first half of the grocery shopping done. Second half happens on the third.

So if the dinner is nowhere, yet everywhereat once; does that mean we have a warp-drive

I’m trying the trick Jeff mentioned. Seems to work quite well.

Ken, yeah I could really use them. What’s funny is those kits actually can do several locos. I could also use it for my BN SD40-2.

The fuel tanks are in front of me. I realized they were the P1K ones just before I started to cut them for modified F-unit skirts. (see the old pic of the stewart F-unit fuel tanks I made) The kato motors are 17-18 bucks a piece. I actually forgot how I did it, but I think I just used carpet tape (the foam double-sided stuff) to mount the motor to the chassis.

Jeff, Say that yellow caboose looks like the old athearn santa-fe one. BN actually wound up with a few of those (I have one in GN paint that will probably stay in GN since it’s close to a GN class) from the C&S and Frisco. If I had it all I’d have to do is paint the sides green, roof silver, and add glazing and decals. lol

Evening All,

Was able to get a first coat of paint on the engine house, and roof. Will do second coats on Saturday as well as the windows and doors, then the small detail parts. Hopefully I will be able to install it on the layout Sunday.

There was an unauthorized transaction on my debit card, so called the bank, and the card is now cancelled. Went into the bank to get a temporary one, and while there figured it was time to have my late wife taken off the accounts. It has been 5 months since she passed away, and I thought it would be easy for me to do. Well it was not. Looking at the death certificate was a bit dificult for me. But I did get it done and I do not have to think about that anymore.

Prayers to all in need.

Paul

Evening,

If the Diner is everywhere at the same time, isn’t THAT using the infinite improbability drive from The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?

Chris (in Iowa)

3-1 San Jose’s on top Come on Sharks!!!

I looked this one up in the HO Scale Trains Resource. It was made by Rivarossi for AHM.

Just don’t turn it on without programming the proofing filters first. Remember what happened to the sperm whale (Hello! Where am I?) and the bowl of petunias? (Oh no! Not again!).

Pant, pant - wheez!

Went to the April location, only to find out that the diner had been moved to its May location. Must have missed a day.

Flo, lots of coffee and a breakfast bagel, please!

Well,m yesterday was the big day! And a long one, too! I left home at 6.30 am and was back at 11 pm, only to drop dead and flat into my bed.

Everything went quite well at the State Party convention. We had over 300 members there, plus about 50 press folks. Did not see Chris there, maybe THAT editor would not sign off the airline ticket!

My opening speech was very well received and provided for the right atmosphere. After I finished, there was about 10 minutes of applause and stomping of feet! Feels good to get some recognition! All the elections did not result in big surprises - I was elected State Party Chairman with an overwhelming majority of all votes. Got a comfortable place on the list of candidates for the Bundestag as well. If my party tops 5 % of all votes in our General Election is September, I will be an MP!

Here is a press picture taken right afte I was elected:

I am the big fella on the right (actually, I hate that picture!).

The nice guy on the left is Prof. Dr. Lucke, an economist, teaching at the University of Hamburg, founder and anchorman of the party.

The coming months will be filled with a lot of work. I am responsible for the campaign in our state, which means lots of traveling, hundreds of speeches and no

Good morning to everyone! The weather is beautiful here in New England, which, of course, means that it will change and we may have wet stuff falling from the sky by evening.

Ulrich, congratulations! Das ist ja ausgezeichnet!

Jeffrey, I too think you’ve got an Athearn. I’ve got a pair of those. The AHM one looks similar, but to me it’s a bit shorter overall, and it’s got thick plastic ladders, while the Athearn model has thinner metal ladders.

Hopefully, today will be my trip up north a ways to Northeast Scale Lumber. It’s actually quite close, but I’ll have to watch the traffic reports because I-93 north can be quite the parking lot some days. I stopped at the ATM this morning for some cash. Shop owners like cash. I want to get a sheet of what they call siding, because it makes a nice wood deck material for flatcars. I’ve got three Tichy cars I’m using for “idler flats” at the carfloat terminal. The prototype doesn’t run the engine even on to the apron, let alone the float itself, so the flats provide a “handle.” It also means that I don’t have to provide power to the tracks on the carfloat. [Y]

Well, g’day to all. I’m getting a message that my computer (work) must be rebooted to correct some security flaw.

Good morning. It’s 63° with 100% humidity. It’ll be cloudy with a fair chance of rain. The high will be 75°.

I have no particular plans for today though the work area on the layout needs some tidying up. I haven’t yet sorted out all the stuff that I received yesterday. One of the boxes I looked in contains a rotary snow plow kit. Looking at it I wondered if maniacal laughter was echoing off the walls as it was added to the box. I’m in west Louisiana and the scenery on my layout is set in the same type area. What am I going to do with a snow plow? Could be some oddity for the local redneck brain trust to look at and ask ‘What the heck is that thar thing?’. Maybe it could be labelled as a giant mobile steam powered snow cone maker. Though I’d hate to see the block of ice you’d need for that baby! And not to mention the catch cup! Step right up folks! One good spin of the blades with a suitable block of ice serves 2,500! I wonder how many I caught sipping their coffee right at that moment.

Time to get on with my day.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the fruit plate please, thanks.

Whew! Place was busy yesterday. Hope there’s some food left ya chowhounds.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Looks like rain thru Tuesday next week. Gonna make for a cruddy all town garage sale weekend. Won’t bother me none cause all I’ll be doing is hauling junk to the all town cleanup site.

Well well, LAWNMOWERS ALL AROUND!! Ken gets his repaired to almost new, G gets a new one and so did I.

Jeffrey- I should have said. I have never seen you not respond to an inquiry if you see it.

Ok Alexander. It sounded like it might be later in the month. Birthday that is.

Vincent- Looks like a rat snake to me. Like Jeff said, the Shovelnose, or Hognose, is a mimic snake and as harmless as most, but creates quite the stir if not paying lot of attention. If cornered they will play dead.

I find all snakes to be potentially deadly because if I’m not careful, I can crack my head on something trying to get away as fast as I can. Me and snakes only get along at great distances.

Mike- I had Norton many years ago. I did not like it as it pretty much took over my computer and I was too stupid to be able to get it to let things through. Mainly pictures or attachments on e-mail drove me nuts. (used it more then.) I don’t do much on a computer so my issues are very small, but I can only think if I ran into “you can’t do this” issues with Norton, others that use it more, would run into more. Just my opinion. Oh and by the way, as we all found out, there is a learning curve on this site. It’ll take you a bit to figure the thing out. In the meantime, we just sit back and chuckle at the whoopsies from the newer guys[(-D]….(ahem)and a few of us older timers as well[:-^]. We’ve a

Morning

Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.

Going to be a long day for me today! I go in at 10:00 AM and close, so if I walk out the door at 8:00 PM I will only worked 10 hours. Like I will get to leave at 8:00. [%-)]

Ulrich, looking good there guy! [Y]

Got to run.

Ken

You are very welcome. Just turn all the burners off plus the tank valve. Now just slowly turn the tank valve back on.

Dennis

Mornin’ everybody, wherever you are…???

Zoe, I’ll have a Butter Rum Muffin with real butter and lots of dark roast coffee in an R&GV RR mug please.

Todd, yep, today looks to be a record breaker for the system. So far nice and bright outside, and the weather (or not) people say the whole day should be exactly the same! Gotta go down stairs top the basement and watch that little wheel spin around and around for a while.

Actually I have a long list of items that have to be done today so time will be short. The hotel I stayed at for the convention last weekend has put 3 different charges on the CC list, sent me a completely different final bill (email) and today the first charge was paid and that was completely different from any of them… I figure the difference between the charge and the bill they sent me was due to the exchange rate (slightly less as it should be). I’ll wait a day or so and make sure it is the only transaction that goes through.

Best get moving and open up a few windows here. Getting warm in the house!

French roast coffee in a BURLINGTON NORTHERN mug, please.

Lawnmowers: Thanks to that ethanol $#!^, my lawnmower once again needs work done. Having the little John Deere 855 fixed up instead so will bushhog the front yard and orchard and forget about the bumpy little Cub Cadet that has been nothing but trouble. Won’t look as good but diesel tractors always start right up.

Have a good day all.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Real windy, warm, very dry 3% humidity, 100 acre brush fire zero% contained in Camarillo and another 1,000 acre brush fire in Riverside county 40% contained.
Distracted driving (talking on a handheld phone) caused 3,331 deaths nationwide in 2011. In California 57,000 tickets for distracted driving during April 2012 at $159. Second offense is $279. I see people talking on hand held phones while driving all the time.

class got canceled today, not gonna lie I’m a little disappointed. lets see I have work later, then class, theny picking up my very tiny paycheck tomorrow, then spending it strengthening my wobbly layout and doing more measurements.

Jeffrey

[(-D] [swg][:-^]

I love it!!! Just knew I was going to get a reaction out of that… Couldn’t resist tugging your chain there Jeff. Besides what with all the so called climate change, you may need it down your way. [swg]

Well, better go gather some more leaves and stuff up in the front yard and chase the lawn mower around some more. Then I can fertalize it to make it grow faster. [*-)]

Cheers

Dennis

Another bright sunny spring day and currently 68 degress in the Old Dominion State. (question asked… now answered) Many U.S. States have nick names. Virginia is the “Old Dominion State” as it was the first English Dominion established in the new world. (1608) It included parts of what would become 4 other states later on. In the old southern civil war song, “the Bonnie Blue Flag” Virginia is referred to as the Old Dominion state as she joined the Confederacy.

Canada was another British Dominion established later. Ya’ had ta’ be big to be declared a Dominion.

Gettin’ on towards lunch time here. Think I’ll check out for chow…Missed breakfast.
