Where there is no Amtrak or tracks… we will “imagine” as we travel eastward along the southern most states to Miami Florida, then a tourist jaunt onto the Keys.
We will ask for trackage rights where necesarily and the President has ordered our request be Met bythe RRs. Warren Buffet’s routes have his permission to run too. In fact he may pop in and give a lecture on “how to grow wealth my way”.
So get ready, should be a smooth ride dust storms, wild fires, droughts and all!

HAPPY (LATE) BIRTHDAY) Tom. I am glad your wife is doing well, I hope she comes home soon? We had a good night not to many trick or treaters? I held the dog the wife gave away all of my reese’s!!! I am gonna be late for W#$K I will see you all later tonight. Have a great day!
Thayne.
Good Morning.
It is a dark morning here as we are still waiting for the sun to come up.
Going to be a somewhat busy day here…I’ve got to pick up a bunch more new prescriptions and groceries…
Then, maybe, I’ll get to run some trains in here…
Flo, I’ll have a coffee and a breakfast bagel…NO!!! Not the 60lb one!! Why are these things getting bigger all the time???…Just the regular sized on…5" across? You remember those?
Thank you…sheeesh…I’ll go sit at the corner booth now…it’s probably a little safer here in the corner by Duke…that way if things start flying I’ll be under the table…
What in the world is that hanging out front!?
Good Morning!! Coffee and them eggs on an English muffin with that sauce stuff on em please. Thank you.
Sunny, with a high near 70.
First a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Ulrich for th wonderful tour of Germany. I especially appreciated it as that is one country the US is big in and I didn’t get a paid vacation there. I do agree though that the tours should be a “special treat month”. I liked it and it has no reflection on my opinion, I just remember how the food pictures got kinda frowned on by the forum folks and wouldn’t want to get in too much trouble. But maybe a yearly trip somewhere? We can’t all really do that but it would be a great idea if we could and what better place to do it than here. Just me thinking.
Started to come in last night for a night cap…. But…um….ever seen Ray doing the polka in Lederhosen?[:|] Ya. I decided to just go to bed.
Welp, for all my whining and complaining, the Trick or Treaters were of the appropriate ages and had costumes of some nature. Most all were polite and many had parents standing back and you could hear them ask their kids “did you say thank you” when the child got close to them and most did, parents present or not. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Next year I doubt if it will be the same. So I will start grumbling now.
Thanks Barry, your card is in the mail. You may want to stand out by the mailbox until it gets there…hope there’s enough postage.[:-^]
I see Tom noticed the upswing in politeness too. You don’t suppose that may be coming back in style do you?
Happy late Birthday Tom.
Ken- Like I said, I’ve never worked on one so I can’t say if it’s difficult or not. Maybe they are very expensive to have worked on should they need it. However, I have not heard of anything but good about them. Of course I
And good morning to you too!
(ahem) Um, the above paragraph about the house being sold sounded…a bit…well it didn’t sound quite right. I’m not sobbing or real down in the dumps over it. Just reflecting. Kinda like remembering that fantastic first corny dog and tater tot lunch. Well, maybe a bit more than that, but you get the idea. Dont’ send crying towels or call the suicide hot line on me. [(-D]
THings that make you go “HHHmmm”: First B of A forecloses on a man who pays for his no longer existing house, then they foreclose on a couple who made a payment too early", and they still are making a multi-billion dollar profit. We all know CUDAKEN’s story with B of A…I get the impression B Of A doesn’t really want their money back on their loans?!?!?!? AMybe they think the real estate will rebound adn be worth more than the outstanding loan amounts?!?!?!?
From Huffingotn Post on AOL startup menu:
Brad Gana, of Seabrook, Texas is being threatened with foreclosure over a home that hasn’t existed since it was destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008,local Houston 2 News reports. local Houston 2 News reports. Furthermore, after the hurricane, which cost the Texas shoreline an estimated $11 billion in damages, reduced the property to an empty slab of concrete, Gana alleges he continued to make payments.
In the meantime, Bank of America, the mortgage lender, took out a forced homeowner’s policy on the property and raised monthly payments. Gana, however, says he was never notified of the change since his mailbox was destroyed by what’s come to be known as the third-most destructive hurricane ever to hit the United States.
Good morning, Chloe. I am confused. Did we move to Florida or California? Oh well, I will have my usual coffee in a NP mug.
Nice weathering, Jeffrey.
Later, Sue
Morning All,
At w**k today. Last night I was staring at my layout and realized that I had never painted the Ice House platform so I think that will be a Friday project. Weather is supposed to be good here all week-High’s in the 70’s and low’s in the 60’s. We are having one of our two nice weeks of weather here.
Where in Socal are we? I have been to San Diego several times while in the Navy
Tom- Glad your wife is doing well and belated Happy Birthday.
Ken- I’m not sure about the length of video. Wouldn’t it be determined by the size of the SD card in the camera? I have a 32 GB Hi Def card in the camera. I don’t have a tripod so for me it is easier and smoother to place the camera in one location and run trains by it.
Everybody have a good day.
As stated in earlier posts…we are in San Diego California leaving the station here:
http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/RxyUM6yWDrjZtvGbaJZ8wg?select=qipRSFm2ewuY721HYP6g8g
ON our way across the southern states to Florida!
We will leave San Diego, and we will pass through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana {visit Jeffrey Wimberly} , Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and finally land in Miami Florida. Then we will take a “tourist train” to the Keys.
Somebody asked for warm, though it is NOT that cold here yet in the North…wait til February when it is 20* and below fahrenheit! SO, Warm it is… Though in February we will find it may be rather chilly if not downright cold in the southern states too.
should be a nice trip.
EDIT: I got top honors so eat up!!!

Mornin’ everyone!
Man! Is the thermostat stuck on? Hot in here! Must be at least 80°F. What the he… Southern Clownifornia? Why? On our way where? Jeffrey’s house? Well… I guess it would be nice to say hi at least.
Zoe, I’ll have the #2 special this morning. Over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast with my dark roast coffee. Can you turn the air conditioner on? It is stiffling in here! People like it this hot?
Todd, when I was teaching, I used to do the Middle School “Activity Nights” aka: dances, so to speak. The lady who was the principal would always come over to the table and request a Polka… I would try to talk her out of the idea as our students weren’t exactly… ah, Polka people…[:-^] One time I suggested we could do a short one titled, “There ain’t no beer in Heaven so we got to drink it all down here…”. She almost fainted! I would go on the mike and tell the kids to go take a break while we played a Polka. I would put on a short one and after the first couple times, all the students would go out to the middle of the dance floor (gym) and stage a “sit in” while the Polka played (they actually thought THAT was fun [:D]). Of course the principal thought it was going to lead to violence and would immediately tell me to, “PLAY SOMETHING ELSE!!!” The “Grumpy Old Men” movies had just come out back then and I would announce the dance yelling, “POLKAAAAH” into the mike… All the teachers supervising would get the reference. I used to have a lot of fun…[:D][:-^]
Can’t we turn the air conditioner on? I’m sweating pretty bad…
Best get moving. I have some outdoor stuff to do here at home where the temp is a much more comfortable 47°F outside… </
Good morning all! The little ghosts and goblins have gone for the year. We didn’t get tricked, we’ve still got both our garbage cans. I don’t think kids are doing that much any more. We had 14 kids this year. Last year it was only 5. I can remember years ago we used to get 40 or 50. Maybe Halloween isn’t the big deal it once was. There seems to be more community centres that put on parties for the young ones and get contributions of treats. The youngsters can go from table to table and fill their bags and have a good time inside where it’s safe and warm. Like others have posted, we too noticed that most of the kids said “thank you” after receiving their treats.
Back in the '60s we lived in a very small town for a couple of years. There was a lot of tricking going along with the treating. One time the kids hoisted someone’s garbage can up to the top of the flagpole outside the post office. The local family-run store used to stock up on eggs at Halloween. They had no scruples about selling eggs to the kids and there was nothing the town could do about it because the store was located outside the town limits. The kids would egg the teacher’s house every year. The town finally hired a security guard to patrol the streets on Halloween. He was a smart cookie, this guard. He spotted a bunch of boys with bulging pockets one year. He asked them if they had any eggs on them. “Oh no, Sir, no eggs,” they replied. He told them he was going to pat them down to see if they were telling the truth. He patted them down rather roughly, paying particular attention to their bulging pickets. “Well, I guess you don’t have any eggs after all. Be on your way,” and the boys went off with egg soaked pants.
Well, southern California is a welcome change from the 40 deg. we are experiencing this morning. At least there’s no s**w on the ground yet.
Good morning.
Galaxy… What a super idea! Coast to Coast from Southern California to Florida. Amtrak’s Sunset Limited will allow the diner to couple up hopefully. … Of course, we model railroaders can contrubute with any era. Right? … I have some Santa Fe locos that could handle part of an imaginary trip if you like.
Later in the month we will roll through Jeff’s territory and Bama’s territory. Who is serving Thanksgiving dinner? [dinner]
Ulrich … Your tour of Germany has been terrific. Thanks again.
James … Of course, a vist to Down Under in the near futere would be grat.
Tom in PA … I’m glad your wife is doing well and I hope her injury heels completely. Also, happy birthday one day late. … Question: When you were born, did your parents conclude you were a trick or a treat? [:-^]
Barry … Why were you smiling in your self portrait? [(-D]
Some of you may recall, I spent a lot of time with my elderly mother in Alabama earlier this year. My sisters and I had quite an emotional experience getting her to move from her house to a senior living facility. She fought us tooth and nail. It was an awful time. … Well, all of that has improved. I call her at least once a day, and the tone of the conversations has shifted significantly. Now, she tells me how much she enjoys living there. Remarkably, she says she is glad she found the place and picked it as her new home. I respond saying I wish she had done so 10 years earlier. … Now, there is more good news. The realtor has an offer from a buyer for her house. I worked with him over the weekend to firm up the deal. It should close in 2 or 3 weeks, and Mom will have adequate funds to support herself indefinately. My sisters and I like that part. …
Cheers, everybody.
Good morning. It’s 62° and sunny. The high will be 76° and it will be sunny.
I’ll be going into town to pay a few bills at some places that refuse to leave the stone age and discover something called online billing. Also have to get gas and groceries and drop some packages at the post office, not necessarily in that order. I’ll be back later.
Good Afternoon,
thanks again for all the kudos on the tour throughout Germany. It has been a real pleasure for me to introduce you folks to my country (if you had not been there before). It is a beautiful country - and all of that in a state less than the size of Texas [:-^]
I think it´ll be a nice idea to do such a tour once or twice a year, but it´ll be a lot of effort (in fact, maybe too much) to do it every month.
Special thanks to Galaxy for taking us through the southern states this month!
Garry - I wish my parents had gone the way your mother did. I know it would have been the right choice. Coping with the pitfalls of every day life has turned into a huge problem for them and it is really tough on my soul to see them losing the last bit of joy in their life. All I can do is to wait for that specific call none of us wants to get.
Todd - I am with you on that house, although it is just a stand-in for all what your parents meant for you. When the day comes, I will feel exactly the same way!
Blessings to all of you!
The SUnset Limited…thanks for pointing that out!
You know I KNEW Amtak had a southern route we could hitch on once we dumped of the overnight sleeper cars back from Germany. But I couldn’t find it on Amtrak’s site! I was SO bummed…
SO thank you for reminding us. WE may take side trips and "imagine ’ or way over other southern routes to get to Miami-even if there aren’t any on Amtrak…we should be able to get trackage rights…
It should be a fun trip…teh best part will be to see how many modelers we can squeeze into jeffrey’s trailer to see his layout! Yes…the turkey,. well who will be our host for “southern fried turkey” this year?
EARLY WARNING: Next Saturday night/Sunday morning at 2 AM is the time to change clocks BACK ONE HOUR for those who change clocks in teh USA. We will GAIN an hour of sleep!
[8-|]
While in San Diego, I suggest visiting the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. It is one of the best model railroad exhibits I have ever seen in person.
We did that last weekend! Now it´s pitch black and dark by 4.45 pm [S]. This will go up (or down?) to 3.45 pm by December 21st [tdn]. I like winter, but not the darkness that comes with it.
