Elliot's Trackside Diner V, at the diamonds

being the good tenants we are, We’ve decided to take it upon ourselves to move the Diner to a new thread, since the last one was numbering on 196 pages. So we hooked up a Trackmobile, and towed the Diner down the street to another prime RR spot. And yours truly is footing the bill for the new page.

So come in, put your feet up, say hi to the girls, grab a drink, shoot the wind. and watch some trains. I’ll get a schedule up soon for us to refer to. Help is appreciated!

Hope this was alright.

Nice place. I’ll have a ham and cheese sandwich.

I had a fire call to go to earlier. It was out in the woods on a deer lease and only the very lightest trucks could get to it. That meant the tankers (water carriers) had to stay out on the main road and refill the two brush trucks when they came back to reload on water. That kept me busy for a couple of hours at least.

Evening,Janie. I’ll have a decaf

and a dish of vanilla ice cream, please. Thanks!

Well, this will be a ‘cross-topic’ post, starting in the former ETD and ending in the new one…

For everyone’s general info, the usual ‘schedule’ for our virtual servers is Zoe - breakfast shift and weekdays, Chloe - dinner and night shift on weekdays, and on the weekend it could be Janie or Flo or (what’s the newer gal’s name, folks?)… But all of that is subject to change if the twins (Zoe and Chloe) need to cover for one of the other servers. The Diner’s cook can fix most anything you can describe (depending on how game you are to eat it if it’s a new dish). There’s several booths, including one on the corner window, with a good view of the tracks for trainfanning, plus several tables and the usual counter. In the back there’s a pool table and (might need some dusting off) a simple RR layout table, if you don’t have company to talk with (like in the wee hours of the morning).

Oh, one other thing - if you post the first post for a page (called the Top Of Page or TOP honors), you get to pay for the virtual food and beverage bill for that page. Zoe and Chloe will keep a tab for you, but don’t get too late in paying, 'cause you don’t want to have to talk with their cousin Vinnie (if you know what I mean…). The Diner gets tank carloads shipped in of virtual OJ, courtesy of our Diner Ed, who has an orange grove in his place SOTB (south of the border, in Mexico, not to be confused with SOTB as described by our Canadian Diners in referring to what we call the United States)

Okay, Janie, a refill on the coffee, please, while I finish catching up. Thanks!

[%-)] Huh? You’ll have to fill this person in about that, PC.

CN Charlie, sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Will be sending some up for him. [angel][angel]

Okay, all our electricians and tree experts - now I have one more thing to keep up with! I have enough trouble telling trees apart as is, and now the pressure if there’s a storm coming my way…[:-^]

No word from my St. Louis friend with whom I was supposed to have lunch and see a movie this afternoon. Haven’t heard anything back from her (email or voice) since Thursday, and I’ve sent (since Thurs.) 3 emails and tried calling her cell 3 times but keep getting her voicemail (and no response yet). So maybe one of her kids had some kind of problem, or she changed her mind. [sigh]

Matt, in that photo you look like you are having way too much fun there. [swg]

I’ll be resting in the middle booth for a bit. That ice cream did the trick. [zzz]

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Holy Cow, Flash–I’m not sure where you moved the diner, but I’ll swear I just saw a YELLOWSTONE rumble by! Think I’ll stay here for a while, LOL!

Must be the new herbal tea

Hey Morgan, thanks for throwing the light switch on the new place! This’ll work just fine!

The guy with all the answers on the TV show Cheeers (think late 1980’s).

Alrighty, a fresh start. How I will sleep tonight, I have no idea. I will be working with a real 90 ton steam locomotive tomorrow. Most of you will know the 19 from the movie Emperor of the North.

It will be my first opportunity with the old girl under steam so far since the season started on the Yreka Western.

I’ll have some Chamomile Tea, please & thanks.

***Matt, how many and what type of cars will she be pulling? Any grades to contend with? Enjoy every minute of it.[tup]

Sadly we could not afford to stay in business… Some people kept refusing to pay their Tabs… We sold the business to Flash, so he can fail!

Good luck!

-GG

My Gosh, its late here! I should probably go to sleep shortly…

One cheese burger and a large coke please!

Well, I’m taking a new spin on my layout. I’m gonna do dual gauge instead of just narrow gauge. My love for ATSF Transition era got the best of me! Oh well, I’m not a rivet counter so the combonation of ATSF SG and D&RGW NG doesn’t phase me.

Good Morning from Tipton IN ! [:D]

Good morning.

It 71 this morning and thunderstorms abound. The high today will be in the upper 90’s and mostly cloudy.

We had a structure fire call from 911 at about four this morning, just about thirty minutes after the lights had gone out from a storm passing through. So I went to the station and with the help of another fire fighter got the generator set up to raise the bay doors. Once they were up the trucks were out and away to Shady Lake RV Park, the source of the fire call. It was a rather nice RV and was well ablaze inside with the fire just breaking through the roof. The fire was put out by unit of the New Llano, Leesville and Sundown fire depts. The RV was unoccupied at the tuime of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Good morning diners, I’ll have the Biscuits and gravy since Flash is buying. Oh and a cup of hot coffee since the herbal tea is making everyone a little funny, LOL. I make a motion that we put the trucks on the bottom of the diner and just lease a siding from the M.E.S.S., Autumns Range, or L.S.&W. for the diner, LOL.

Cleveland-Cliffs resurrected a F9 last month! After replacing aircompressors and a few minor parts A F9 A-B-B-B unit was fired up and rolled through the yard trampling small trees and undergrowth after sitting in storage. I’m only hearing bits and pieces of news. The train will be hauling taconite, yes a revenue train not an excursion! Cleveland-Cliffs merged with an enviro-fuel company that makes cubes from waste plant materials. The F9 departed sparrow yard with 89 cars last week, and there are pictures in photo-bucket of the event. From what I’m hearing the plan is to fire up an idle blast furnace using these fuel squares.

"Our favorite A-B-B-B set of F9s was hard at work today as roughly 12
fans captured the action in and around Taconite Harbor. "

Jeff, have you ever had to use an Indian Pump to fight a grass/field fire? Talk about work, for the diners that may not know an Indian Pump (built by the Indian fire pump CO.) is a water tank you wear on your back and the

Morning all!

Got woken up this morning by the emergency line of my work (it’s connected to my cell phone). MAN, I HATE THAT THING! Everyone at my work is convinced that it never goes off, but the reason they think that is because I always handle it so they don’t have to. It goes off at the worst times too. It lit up this morning at 6:45am. On my only morning to sleep in. Now don’t get me wrong, I feel for the people on the other end of the line who are having a problem. Today I have a nursing home out of service, so it’s a priority. It’s just me being selfish I guess, and wanting to be asleep right now instead of working on Sunday morning. /rant

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. At least I didn’t have to get up with Jeff!

ANYWAYS…

I teach later today, so I’m excited about that. Guess I can use this time to study up, huh? I’ve got my crews working on the phone problems.

Yeah, thats a good idea. Think I’ll get on that.

Later!

Rob,

she will be pulling a SP Harriman and a 1925 Wood Great Northern caboose. We actually do have a couple 2% grades on the line. The steepest being Butcher Hill at 2.7% and part of it is on a curve. We will have our new excursion car done soon I hope as well. In addition we got some new passenger equipment from the Cal State RR Museum a couple weeks ago, but those cars will need some restoration before being put into service.

Morining all. Just dropping by to check out the new location, looks good. have a great day everyone.

Morning all

Went by the old location and Poof it was gone

Hope everyone enjoys the new spot !

Gonna be another 100 plus day today here

Good morning, sunny here today at least for a while, TS’s and heavy rains once again in forecast for this afternoon. If we ever get the remnants of a hurricane here like back in 1955 with hurricane Diane with her 11" in 30 hrs, we are in deep doo-doo. All the lakes, ponds, and streams, are at top level. Too muggy to be outside today fro long, so I will be catching up on a lot of MRR reading. Trains and MRR mags arrived in mail yesterday, a great article in MRR on the expansion of their layout (N scale) but very appropriate for any scale. Nice techniques used.

I see we have a new location for the Diner, I like it here better by the Diamond, we get to see action now on all sides of the Diner. Duke crashing into the trash cans with his bike, Jeff roaring up with his souped up car and there goes a Berkshire with a 120 car drag across the diamond…hey, is that SCOTT I see on that GP7?

PC: Sit down and have breakfast lad, you look real tired after getting up so early this morning on that job over at wrinkle city! LOL

LEE: Hey those were great photos of that old girl. I noticed that the tracks are very unused, and the ties look very old and worn. Is this a new operation starting up at an old plant that has been idle for years?

FERGIE: More rain up your way I see, that pesky upper level LOW is headed right up over Nova Scotia today and tomorrow.

Later guys,

Yes I have, and believe me, you can have it. We retired our old metal frame Indian pump some years ago. Now we have several new ones that are made of nylon and canvas. They come with a rubber hose and plastic pump nozzle. We usually strap one to a newbees back and tell him to go put out the fire that’s raging through the woods at the time.
