back in Denver. Noticed it sitting down by the BNSF facilities while driving on Park Ave. West this morning. It looks like we might see some sun today (despite the forecast for 6 inches of snow last night…that seems to have dissipated into a couple flurries), so I might try to go get a decent shot of that bugger.
Have photos of his predecessor which was an SD60 that lived between La Junta and Raton for months. Curious to see how this fella looks.
still an SD60 but it now has EMD radial trucks that did not come installed at the building of the loco.
It had only one truck (front) with a radial truck on it for years. About 1986, the first(?) radial truck was put on it for testing. They ran it over and over again through a set of switches in La Junta ( 6 1/2, 8, 10 and 14 Turnouts) plus up near the top of Raton Pass with curves over 10 degrees at Wootton and back down to Gallinas.
It shared time on the hill with a “plain jane” SD50 without SBD lettering, # 8500(?)
Man…it’s a day of odd sorts of stuff here in the Centennial State. Had to drop off some co-workers at the airport just now, and saw an Antonov AN-124 out at DIA. Gads! That’s a big airplane. Kind of makes one wonder what it would be like to see an AN-225!
And of course I was without a camera once again. Need to pick up a small but useful digital. Something akin to my FED-3 or Canon QL17 back when I shot film.
Yea Chris, just what you need, more cameras.[swg] Oh yea, it’s that CAS you got.
I don’t think I’d chalk this one up to CAS. OK…maybe…but it would actually fill a nice little niche need and not be acquisition for the sake of acquisition. And believe it or not, I’m actually going to start thinning my camera collection a bit! Some of the FD, M42 and other odds and ends may be going up on Ebay here. I’m even toying with the idea of getting rid of the Super Tak 500mm f4.5! [:0] Maybe I should go see a doctor or something…
Are you going to give up anything that would fit my Canon EOS Elan?
Chad…nothing EF compatible. The M42 stuff can be used with an adapter. However, it’s really hard to focus, especially in the dim viewfinders of 1.6x crop digitals. Unfortunately, unlike some other brands, Canon cameras will not provide focus confirmation with a non-EF lens, either.
I think this is why I’m actually contemplating getting rid of some of the stuff. With the exception of f2 or faster lenses, it’s really hard to nail focus on anything resembling a consistant basis. You may have better luck with your Elan, since it utilizes a viewfinder meant for full frame, and is inherently much brighter because of that fact.
If you’re still interested, drop me a line off list.
I’m not really looking but if you had something I could use that’s different. I’m actually pretty happy with the set up I have (35-75, 70-300 and a doubler with a polarizer filter). I’ve had it over ten years and plan on having it for many more. It’s been a great camera and I plan on putting it in the shop for a thourogh cleaning when my camcorder comes back from repair.
