EMD SD80,90 mac no more?

Hi guys,

I’m wondering if anyone knows where to get these beautiful engines EMD SD 80 or 90 ? Are they stop producing this HO scale EMD 80? I can find no more these days.

Thank you very much,

The Kato SD90Macs have been out of production for quite a while, but you may find one on ebay or check some of the online stores. The RailPower shells and frames may still be available from A-Line if you want to build one. You would also need an Athearn SD40-2 trucks & a motor (Athearn or Mashima or something) for the drive, 45" radiator fans, the A-Line etched brass step kit, the radial side frames and handrail kit from SmokeyValley and assorted other details. This is a challenging build. If you want a more detailed list, contact me off-list.

This is one I built about 10 years ago I think, (before the A-Line brass step kit came out):

Only one I found, it is Brass for $599.99. Took me 30 minutes to find it. Did find quite a few of SD 6 and 70’s on the same site.

Thank you very much,

These are very beautiful pictures you have there, well done .

I have no idea how to built this one really , i live in Thailand, too. There is no information at all. I hope they’ll be having something like rolling stock? I’ll be waiting.

Anyway, Thank you so very much for your great help, would like to see more and more of your work.

I got in late on the Kato units I did manage to purchase 2 new units in tne box off Ebay in the last few months for under $115.00. Very pleased with them.

KATO makes both the SD80MAC and the SD90/45MAC and I own copies of both models. They are great models to have an I want to add more to my fleet. KATO does not offer them any more in HO scale but you can find them easy on E-bay. Well easy if you don’t model Norfolk Southern.

I have consisted my 2 SD80MACs together and pulled a 150 car coal drag (with loads too). Both trains pulled the drag with little effort. The SD80’s and SD90’s from KATO share the same running gear and trucks, the biggest difference I found in the engines is the area in the rear where the sandbox is located.

Here are some items that came up on eBay when I did a search on “SD80MAC Kato HO”:
