EMD SD80MAC INFO.

I would like to get as much info as I can on the conrail SD80 locos. How many were made, how many still in service, who got them in the merger, were they any good, is there A future for the V20, etc, etc. Any thing would be helpfull. Thanks!

well… CSX and NS split the total numbers among themselfs when they split up conrail in 99… as far as how many each got and total number of units…no clue
as far as how the run…like crap…one of the biggest hunk of junks to ever hit the rails…

Conrail bought all 30, and CSX got 13 (800-812) and NS got the other 17 (7200-7216, including the demo).

All should still be running, and it’s very doubtfull any more will be built.

no more will be built… conrail was the only railroad to express any intrest in the units and with its demise…so did any hopes of any new sd80s… the railroads found the 70macs and im guessing (since csx dont own any) the 90macs are a better buy…altho personlay i think they are all junk…

The opinions on the SD80s expressed here follow the views of employees I know in that they are hard riding (one admitted that compared to all other engines he’s run, the SD80s are only better riding than Alco RSD12s, C628s and GE U25Cs, all of which had the exceptionally hard riding GSC six motor/axle type C trucks) and they have isolated cabs! Get Pix of these babies now, gang! They do not have much time left, if traffic levels drop enough, these units will be the first (or close to it) stored. They will be returned to their lessor come next year, their tenth “birthday”,when their lease is up.

www.thedieselshop.us gives every railroad locomotive rosters and other info.

that is the best news i heard about the 80macs… the sooner they get off the proproty…the better in my book…
