EMD SD90MAC Demo Unit

I am looking for photographs of EMD’s SD90MAC Demonstrator Locomotive Road Number 8204. I have contacted EMD, and they were unable to help me. Does anyone know where I might be able to find some photos?

are you talking about the 6000Hp locomotive model? Before it switched over to a different number on the UP…

I think the one I am modeling will be the 4300HP unit, but I think the 6000HP unit may have had the same paint scheme.

Thanks for the info, Dru. I sent an email to TRAINS and received a reply that they didn’t think they had any photos of the locomotive.

I think that I still have that issue of TRAINS magazine. I’ll look around, but if you find out which issue it is, please let me know.

If it is the EMD unit 8204 that is a part of the UP order, then there are pictures of that unit in the issue. There is a picture of it showing all of the unit, just not the nose and back end of it. Somebody took the picture at a high angle to show it all. I am still looking for that issue, and when I find I’ll let you know.

There are a couple of excellant photos of 8204 in TRAINS magazine a couple of years ago. It is the 75th anniversary of EMD, it has the 8204 on the cover. I would contact TRAINS, and see if they have any more availible for purchuse. It is an excellant issue. Plus they go into the details of the SD90MAC, how they are built, and things like that. I hope that this helps you out. I will look for the issue and I’ll tell you when it was released.

One other thing, The unit that is pictured is the 6000 horsepower version.
