Several years back an article appeared outlining how an Athearn (SW1200?) was re-built, beefed up, and then put back in service as a more powerful and unique piece of motive power for the authors model R R.

This followed the usual theory of using salvageable components from a wreck(s) to create an hybread.

Could anyone help me find this article ?

I used the search function on my dvd MRR and found a July 1981 article on Alco switchers that looks similar to what you’re asking for.
