EMD's SD70M-2.

Funny how they spec the HTSC truck, but show a picture of a radial. Guess it’s like GM’s automobile advertising – do you suppose they need to supply a disclaimer in fine print “Locomotive shown has the following extra-cost options…”

What’s the purpose of that extended nose panel?

Am i to assume that since this is called a dash 2 that it does not have the EM 2000 micro ?
It appears that EMD has a winner… If the price is right.
Randy

Randy – I can’t look the thing up on the EMD site right now, but I believe it uses the current version of FIRE, which may answer your question without any fumbling around on my part.

Fire is cab electronics… Like EMDs answer to GEs ICE… get it fire / ice
Randy

Still no full specification, but D100 motors - it isn’t the same since the Dx7 progression went away! An AR20 alternator? I think the radial truck always was called HTSC (S for steering).

Peter

That was quick - wrong already! I guess the HTSC is the non steering version of the radial truck that I’ve heard about, (and not seen) and I don’t know what S stands for!

EMD couldn’t have picked a less revealing photo of the loco as far as trucks are concerned, and the demonstrator probably has radial trucks.

Peter

HCTR = Radial / steering truck
Randy

Randy, it’s HTCR (that’s HTC + R for radial), not HCTR.

But you almost certainly knew that & just got dyspexia (that’s when you peck the keys in the wrong, reversed order… ;-})

“DYSPEXIAS UNTIE”

Perhaps we shouldn’t take the the image of the SD70M-2 on EMD’s website too seriously…a spokesman for the company said it is an artist’s rendition…the prototype hasn’t even been finished yet.

It’s about time they got rid of the diode fuses too. I don’t like the ride quality of the bolsterless truck, seems like you can feel every little bump. These trucks have caused some injurys supposedly.

So isn’t this just a SD70DCe? It looks and has many of the same specs as the SD70ACe just with DC drive. Any other such assumptions. And if so why wouldn’t they just call it a SD70DCe?

So if I understand it correctly is it just SD70s and higher (also the SD60MAC) that have HTCR trucks, or were these on option even on some of the above metioned locos.

Yes, the SD70M-2 is the DC version of the SD70ACe…don’t know why they put this particular nomenclature on it. Perhaps to avoid potential confusion in the market place.

I don’t care what they call it,The SD70MAC was the last of it’s kind.,No Comment.

that’s the ugliest thing i’ve ever seen. why does the EMD look more and more like the GE…?

[#ditto]

Even the GEVO’s are nicer.

Even I have to agree with dougal.

Fugly! Is the word I’m looking for![:D]
