Emma Stone's Model Trains

Did anyone else see Saturday Night Live last night?

.

Emma Stone was the host. She had a prepared digital bit called “Hobbies” where the finale was her model train layout. The layout featured her fantasy town called “Emmaville”. I am going to use that on the map of the STRATTON AND GILLETTE system.

.

It was not one of the two really funny moments in the show, but it was a pretty good bit.

Kevin,

That only happens if you go back and edit your post then submit it again. If you remove all the “extra” symbols between the “e” and “s” in “Stone” (i.e. ') and replace it with another apostrophe, the subject title will post correctly. (I added it back in for you.) You are right though that it’s a quirk of the forum software and it has been for years.

Thank you for that! I took the comment out of my original post.

Given I’ve been watching all 40+ years, it’s about time SNL made my hobby hip.

“Never be embarassed of your hobby, it’s a part of you.”

.

Classic.

Only watch SNL it via Netflix or on the phone. I showed this Emma stone hobby video to my wife and in true British fashion she said they were clearly taking the Mickey. Your wives are always right right? Mine too so I’m not putting much stock in this Emma Stone thing. I’ve never been a crap without the c fan either.

She may be a train girl, or if may be a way to be derisive towards hobbyists. Either way, she’s not a star of the same magnitude of Rod Stewart or Neil Young.

I sorta of thought it was a writers idea for a train layout and not hers. I thought her name was familiar, tho’ her face was not. I looked up her filmography and nope, never saw anything she was in. Maybe that’s just a reflection on my lack of interest in Hollywood.

Maybe you were thinking of Sharon Stone, and the movie “Basic Instinct”. [:-,]

A quick search of Emma Stone and model trains, only brings up the SNL episode, so it doesn’t go any deeper than a SNL skit.

Wait!..OMG!!! Was SNL making fun of model railroaders? [:O] [(-D]

Mike.

.

Um… yeah… we are grown men playing with electric toy trains… perfect fodder for making fun of.

.

Of course Emma Stone does not have a model railroad! She didn’t hand carve Barry The Mailman whe she was 15.

.

But she sure can lay down a bangin’ rap to a sick beat. She is one of the highest paid actresses working today. If you have seen a good movie in the past 10 years or so, she was the cute girl. To me she looks an awful lot like Lindey Lohan. My wife says she doesn’t.

.

About three years ago on Weekend Update, SNL made fun of Warhammer players, and the wargamers started passing around stupid online petitions and swearing they would never watch SNL again.

.

I trust we have thicker skin.

.

Seriously, my wife makes fun of me, my daughters make fun of me, my coworkers make fun of me, even some fellows on this forum seem to think they should make fun of me. We should just laugh along with them.

.

Both of my sons-in-law and my youngest daughter’s fiance think my trains are cool, but they know better than to cross me.

.

I added the laughing guy to my post…I was just kidding…tongue-in-cheek? is that the right saying?

Mike.

James Corden’s “pleasure room” I thought was a more out there spoof of our hobby. [:P]

I knew you were kidding.

.

I cannot stand the whole “SNL made fun of us, we now feel persecuted, let’s all act silly now” attitude. Just trying to let everyone know it is OK to be made fun of.

.

SNL has made fun of Bass Fishers, Hang Gliders, SCA Guys, LARPers, the CEO of Ford, Wal-Mart, Target, Starbucks, and so on for infinite. They make fun of everyone.

.

You know what, Rod Stewart still has it all over these young ‘stars’ and he has not one but TWO model railroads. So go ahead and make fun of our hobby all you want, SNL, You will never be Sir Rod Stewart level cool.

This topic got me poking around for stars who have train sets, enjoy trains, and/or collect them. Folks, consider yourselves to be among some of Hollywood’s elites. Ignore the snide comments about playing with toys. Brava MR for generating the below list. Stars on it include Joltin’ Joe (remember him?!), and Old Blue Eyes. Sinatra had a storage area built for his Lionel train. Of course he did it “My Way.” I slay me!

Below is an even longer list of train fans and collectors. The list includes Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brokaw.

Don’t you feel better being amongst some famous stars?!

I was recently watching a layout visit video and the owner remarked casually that “Gary Coleman used to come down here. He used to carry around a paint can to stand on when running train”

Not knowing who Emma Stone is? Seriously?

She did an actually wholesome, somewhat family friendly (by comparison to most Hollywood crap) movie musical a year ago (that made a ton of money at the box office), where she actually had to sing some challenging music and not fake it, did simply an amazing job and won an Oscar for it (Best Actress).

There’s nothing wrong with her acting/performing ability and I hope she genuinely has some interest in our hobby…or at least people enjoying their personal hobby to de-stress.

John

“Sir Rod Stewart?” Did the Queen knight him? Man, she’s knighting everyone in music lately…Sir Paul McCartney…Sir Elton John… Sir Mix-a-Lot
