Two great photos!
Kind of sad to see BNSF treating Amtrak the same way that the UP has done in recent times.( such as a daily
Texas Eagle/ Sunset.setting almost impossible terms and knowing it.)
I had hoped that BNSF now being basically owned by Warren Buffett would act a little more in the public interest and less like a typical Wall Street driven company only caring about the bottom line and the very short term; such as continuing to treat the Raton NM. to Newton Ks. as a thorwaway line.
I delivered steel in the Wichita ; Dodge City and La Junta Co. areas; and it always made me wonder why I would see a newly resignaled Dodge City line empty of trains and then looking a intermodel trains around Wellington Ks. sitting for many minutes waiting for a slot on the transcon.
Today’s powerful locomotives can certainly handle Raton Pass with a Z train with ease.
I’ll bet that if the Kansas;Colorado; and New Mexico funding is approved and the route improved BNSF will move many more trains to the route.

Great idea, flexibility and adjusting to changes in freight volume, track work & major rehabilitation work projects. Way to go BNSF. Sounds like BNSF wants to keep AMTRAK as a long term customer.
Hey James, one train a day each way ain’t exactly the NEC. BNSF is making a valiant effort to improve its plant so as to improve performance of ALL trains on that route including the BUILDER.
