I called up Kadee this morning because I wanted to get a recommendation for a coupler for my Athearn SD45T-2. I’m currently using the #58 but am finding that the shank length is too short. Basically, the uncoupling pin from the car or engine that it is coupling with interferes with the snow plow.
Kadee told me that in a couple of months time they would be releasing scale couplers (#58 head) with short, medium, and long shank. Plus, these will all have the whisker spring.
Kadee is listening to their customers![:D]
That’s good to know. My Athearn RTR’s are great, but I have noticed that a longer shank coupler is needed because the boxes are mounted in so far.
How are the whisker couplers holding up compared to the older style spring couplers. Any problems
I installed the KD 148’S in 8 pieces of rolling stock and four Loco’s about two months ago. No problems so far and don’t anticipate any. They actually work better in some installs that were a little tight with the # 5’s. And one less part to handle and keep track off.

[#ditto] I’ve been buying the 148’s since they came out, love the easy install. so far so good. Now if they just convert their whole line to whiskers, we’ll all be in heaven.
I agree. Tried out a few 148s and like them a lot. Just bought a bunch more.
