End of an Era in Milwaukee Milw Road Smokestacks Tumble

At 9am on Sept 4, 2010 the last remants of the once sprawling Milwaukee Road Shops in Milwaukee, WI came down in less than 1 minute. The smoke stacks from the Milwaukee Road Shop Complex in the Menomonee Valley were imploded this morning. The smoke stacks were originally going to be kept and become a reminder of the once huge shop complex there. However they were just to far gone and too expensive to maintain or save. So with a countdown from 10 to zero in less than 1 minute the stacks were reduced to rubble.

Wow, I remember those. Nice pictures.

Landmarks evoke such interesting memories. I really liked living in Wisconsin. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the information regarding the smokestacks.

Not that different from what happened in Decatur when the Wabash smokestack was torn down.

Amazing how much that area has changed!!

Thanks for the photos.
