read a report that stated CSX was trading 75 SD40-2s for a new locomotive order and placing more of the 40-2s in storage. Is this end of an era on the CSX?

Looking out my office window to see this morning’s CSX’s hotsot intermodal freight pulled by two SD-40-2s and and SD-70 . . .
I kind of doubt it.

As long as there are any in “storage”, the era is not over, even on CSX.

It was bound to happen sooner or later considering their age (at least 25 years old). Even rebuilding can stretch things only so far.
Awwwww… The SD40-2’s are my favorite locomotive…
But, like anything else, once it gets too old, it has to go…
