I was out and about today and took this pic. Thought it was kinda cool…
Must be the top of Pikes Peek. Thats a center cog rail, and your little blurb off to the side says your from colorado.

You got it! My mom just came into town for a visit, and I took her up there today. I never get sick of that drive!!
That’s a pretty wild photo. Very, very cool though. Just became my new desktop pic of the week!
“I would like to thank all the little people”.[:o)]
Seriously though, that is at 14,110’. Definately worth the drive up if anybody is ever in the area.
I suppose I may as well post a pic of the train itself. Does anybody model cog railways??

I’ve only been there a couple of times (I’m from CT), but I get altitude sickness. I made it to the top as a kid before getting sick. The last time I was there, to take my wife, we got to the base a little too late (after spending the afternoon in the Cave of the Winds). So we only got to the gate at the base and I was sick for two days. So I have to settle for the great view of the peak from my uncle’s deck. Randy

Welllll… you could’ve taken the train.

FOR REAL? This is agreat pic. Where could I find more info about this?
Those ties aren’t very evenly spaced and someone went too far with the ballast weathering… [(-D]
Surprising you were able to drive up. Grays has knee deep snow above 12k. Getting to be that time of year.
Nice pic.
Does anybody model cog railways??
If they do then almost certainly Swiss railroads like the former Furka Oberalp (now part of Materhorm Gothard Bahn). Bemo of Germany makes a number of models.
Nice pics.

As an afterthought: isn’t that railcar Swissmade?
Do you have some more info or pics on that line?

Reminds me of the scene in Back To The Future Part 3 where Marty McFly had to have a steam locomotive push the DeLorean to get it up to 85 miles an hour to clear the ravine and get back to his own time. One of my favorite movies from when I was a kid.
Yeah, same reaction for me. Either that or the sketch by Shel Silverstein on the cover of “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” That’s a book of short poems for kids, thoroughly enjoyable for adults.
For all those asking about more info on the Cog, here is their website…
My wife treated me to a short trip to Colorado last summer to ride the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and then off to Canon City to ride the train through Royal Gorge. If you go during the summer I would suggest that you make reservations in advance. We went on a week day in late July. We arrived at the Cog Ralway station at 9AM and all tickets had been sold for the day. [:(]
We left for Canon City and had a nice ride through Royal Gorge. Plan to head back to Colorado again when I get time as their are a lot more trains to see and ride.

Wow, nice pic. That old buffer must not inspire very much confidence. Looks like it would give the moment something tapped it.
LGB makes some cog drive engines. Really cool to watch them operate. The Chicago Botanic Gardens garden railroad has a cog section.
pretty amazing picture , but it’s got me wondering , why did they lay the track right to the edge ?
