There used to be a website where you could lookup an engine by frame number, road number, etc and it would tell all kinds of information like the previous owners, build date, etc. Now I can’t find it. Can someone help me out here?
Thanks!

This site http://utahrails.net/loconotes/loconotes-faq.php isn’t a data base, but has lots of info. And then there is this one http://www.railroaddata.com/rrlinks/Locomotives_and_Rolling_Stock/
Do a Google search … usually your first and best step.
Thanks for the quick reply, I went the google route and got nothing. I’ll see if I can find what I need from those sites, but that is really not what I was looking for.
Hey Dougal [:)]
Was the info in the previous posts what you were looking for and did it help. [?]
Inquiring minds want to know. [:D]
These may be of some help:

A key thing about Googling - one search is rarely enough. Try different phrasing, different words (ie, caboose, cabin car), and related subjects. Sometimes you hit a “nothing matches your search,” and sometimes you hit the mother lode.
There are other search engines as well (not that Google is bad - anything but!). They might have a site listed the either Google doesn’t have, or is on page 123 of the results…
Not having reviewed any of the sites posted above, I don’t know if anyone listed the site that has all existing steam locos, active or not.
