I have a Bachmann Diesel (w/DCC). Why does it hum when I apply the throttle?
Thanks!

It might be the motor or joints? I doubt it is the decoder.
It may not have a " silent decoder " Back in the “old” days all decoders caused a hum.
On your system change CV50 to 8. I found this information in another forum and this took care of most of the motor noise in my GP35.
Thanks everyone. I’ll try the CV change. By the way, I hear the Bachmann with DCC on Board, comes with a bargain basement Lenz decoder. The hum is very annoying, since I love to simulate the slow, realistic take off.
Rdbleu,
Is your Bachmann a Spectrum series with DCC, or one of the new DCC-ready locomotives that run around $40? If it is, you may be stuck with the “noise”.

It’s probably humming because it doesn’t know the words!

i like the hums sound realistic to me.
You should try humming along…maybe come up with some harmony. I knew a girl in high school who hummed while she…er…uh…worked.
It’s a Spectrum.
