Engine repairs

Hey guys is there any info on line for engine repairs. I have a few trains that are older but are in need of some tinkering!!! Also I have 2 of the Thomas HO trains that basically died the first week and of course with no proof I am kinda stuck with them I have been thinking about just putting new motors in them mabey upgarde LMK Joseph

I know that a couple of our local clubs that have open houses have Thomas engines that they would like to run for the kids, but never seem to be working. I’m sure the people on the forum can help you otherwise, but you might need to be a little more specific as to what the other trains are.

They are all HO. One is a bachman that I picked up new at a show and it just runs in little spurts , it looks like htere is a hell of alot of grease in the inside but It would be nice to have a general idea of how the insides work

If it is running in spurts, try cleaning the wheels. An easy way to do this is to apply rubbing alcohol or track cleaner on a papertowel, set the towel accross the rails and run each truck over the cloth while holding the loco with one hand.As far as tinkering, you will need a modelers screwdriver set,an NMRA gauge, very good lighting and patience. Most diesels are easy to work with while steam requires experience.I would pick yourself up a cheap Athearn blue box engine, tear it down and reassemble it.Athearn are the easiest to work with as the older ones have no wires. This will give you a general idea of how locos are put together as most quality diesels are a similar design.Stay away from anything with a motor integral with the truck. In other words any older Bachmann,Life Like,Tyco or Model Power stuff. Also pu a few books on maintaining locomotives. If you have any mechanical ability, they are not hard to work on,Dan

thanks for the info… Joseph
