engine used

hello, I am trying to put toghter a WW2 train layout but i need t know what type of engine was used back then by the U.S. Army, I am planing to build a “in thefield” type

scene with Troop cariers and troop hospital, and kitchen cars along with rolling stock, my mine question is about what type engine was used . Did they have/use diesel back then or where they all steam? anyhelp any one could give will be greatly appriciated

For what you’re describing, you’d need to track down some late 30’s French steam locomotives and rolling stock.

There wouldn’t have been anything in the US like what you’re trying to build.

The US did bring quite a few steam engines to France in 1944.
