Some of you guys sure have a lot of locomotives. I hold to the adage: The more you have; the more time you spend having to take care of it.

I’m happy with my two:
1 Athearn 2-8-2 Mikado
1 P2K Alco S1 switcher

At some point, I may eventually “double” my fleet but…probably not much more.

Tom

The late 1950s era Bunter Ridge runs (in n-scale):
3 pairs Alco FA2/FB2 (A-B-B-A and an A-B consists, Life-Like)
1 pail Alco PA1/PB1 (Kato)
4 Alco RS-11s (Atlas/Kato)
3 Alco RSD-12s (Atlas/Kato)
6 Alco RS-2s (Kato)
5 Alco RSD-4/5s (Atlas)
3 EMD E8s (usually A-B-A consist, Kato)
3 EMD SD9s (Atlas)
2 Baldwin VO-1000s (Atlas)
2 EMD SW9s (Life Like)

The various Alco road switchers run in a number of consists, including alone.

As you can see, they love Alcos. The only expansion I foresee is if someonone comes out with a good Alco S-2 (or -3 or -4) model in N-scale that is not a pain to convert to DCC (are you listening, Kato?). I’ve got too many conversion projects waiting for me to add any more to the queue that aren’t simply drop-in installations.

More than my wife thinks is necessary…

I have 25 or so, but 10 will hit the eBay with a spla***his weekend. Should I come back and change my vote?

I think one thing that’s relevant is “what scale are you in”, after all, we’d be pretty surprised if a G Scaler had as many locomotives as an N scaler.

My current roster:

Modern Heavies
4 Kato SD70MAC
3 Atlas Dash8-BW
1 Kato AC4400CW
1 Kato SD90/43 MAC

1 LL Berkshire 2-8-4
1 Atlas Mogul 2-6-0
1 LL 2-8-8-2

All in Normal scale. [:D]

I have recently sold a Kato SD45, and may be selling one of the Bachmann Connies. Current plans include expanding the roster by 6-10 locos this year.

nuts! I knew I’d forgotten one… [B)]

125 and climbing (it must be an addiction - buying locos). All first and second generation diesels, no dummies.

Let’s see…diesels first…4 SD90/43MAC’s,3 AC4400CW’s,2 SD60’s,3 SD45’s,1 Train-Master,1 SD9,1 GP38,2 F40PH’s,1 SD50 and 2 DD40AX’s.My steamers…Big Boy,Challenger,Mallet,Berkshire,2 Mikado’s,1 Hudson,2 Pacific’s,1 2-10-0 and 1 0-6-0 Switcher,all N scale.

Last time I counted, about 53 with 4 more in the LHS waiting aside for me

Gordon

All HO:

1 Rivarossi UP 4-8-4
1 Spectrum UP 4-8-2
1 Spectrum UP 2-8-0
1 Bachmann UP 0-6-0
1 Genesis UP SD70M
1 Athearn ATSF FP45
1 P2K SP SD7

and about 4 junkers.

two SD-45s
a 44 tonner
two GP-7s
a U25B
a U23B
three GP-38s
an F3A
an F3A-B set (two locos)
two F40PHs
and two GP-15s

looks like seventeen to me [:D]

Hey man, locomotives are where it’s at! The more, the better.

I currently have 49 locomotives.

2 U28C
1 U30B
1 8-39B
1 8-40C
2 9-44CW
2 F7A
3 F7B
1 F45
1 GP7
1 GP9
2 GP35
2 GP38-2
3 GP40-2
2 GP60
2 SD40-2
9 SD40T-2
1 SD45R
2 SD45T-2
3 SD50
1 SD70M
1 SW7
3 SW1500
1 RDC-3
1 TEBU
1 Hustler

Most of my engines are dead, or from the sixties, or both[sigh]. I plan to get 3 more SD40-2s to add to my two-2s and one plain 40, and a BLI C30-7, but that’s about ten times as much as I need for my railway. I could run it with my two kato -2s and my proto SD45. Two passing sidings, 1 mile main line, 3/4 of it in tunnels. Or I could do it with two of my proto C-liners, and two of Proto GP9s
CPR4EVER
Trainboy

I have 23 units…
1 Kato SD40-2
3 Atlas U30Cs
2 Athearn U33Bs
2 Atlas GP7s
4 Atlas GP40s
4 PK2 GP38-2
1 PSC SD40T-2
1 PSC SD45T-2
1 Key Imports SD40T-2
1 Athearn SD45T-2
1 Front Range GP-9
2 Atlas U30Cs (DCC equiped)

How many engines? I don’t have a massive fleet, I have a small “test” fleet that I have for testing my track and sizing up sidings and whatnot for trains…

“Test fleet”
1 Athearn EMD F7-A Amtrak
1 Athearn EMD GP35 Soo line
1 Athearn ALCo PA-1 Southern Pacific (“Daylight” scheme)

Gopher State Railroad (Formerly Minnesota & Southwestern)
2 ALCo Models (Kumata) ALCo C-420 (unpainted)
1 ALCo Models (Kumata) ALCo C-430 (unpainted)
1 Atlas ALCo RS-3 (currently painted for Rock Island)
1 ER Models Baldwin “Sharknose” RF-16 (Undecorated)

So, three in the test fleet and five for the railroad.

About 50 right now, I plan on haveing 60 by the end of the year.

Gordon

I totally agree with BikerDad. I Also think I’m nuts with over 100 engines,150+ passenger cars,& 700+ frieght cars.

Well, you asked for it!
