Worked through two previous pikes before my present endeavor with no more information nor conversation than that offered in MR and the small group at the LHS. MR has followed me in my move to the Midwest and there’s a very knowledgable group hanging at the new LHS.
This forum has been interesting and there are quite a few very talented folks who visit here but over the last couple of months the level quality of the discussion has deteriorated to the point where it’s become harder to find topics of interest than it used to be getting through the flood of interesting conversation that greeted my daily visits. [:(]
I hope those of you who are doing good railroad modelling will continue in the hobby. Those who help when it’s needed, do the same. Everyone who wants only to stir the pot, ruffle the feathers, create the crisis and puff out your chests; find a bar and watch your backs. I’ve had my fill of it and except for the occassional run through to sift the few gems from the rest of the sewage posted I am concluding my involvement with this forum.
Well folks, it’s been real. I’ll catch ya’s round the corner later.
At first I wasn’t going to say anything, but I think many here need to get over some of the things that have happened here. All in all it’s been a pretty quite weekend. BUT here we go again, this will more then likely turn into a 3-4 page thread with everyone venting about how the sky is falling, things aren’t the same as in the old days, etc.
Just this week, I learned a few new tricks, and was helped on a few items. So to say there isn’t any value in the MR forums is in my opinion wrong. But if you feel the usefulness is gone, no one can stop you, I see there is a new member just today, so just as in life, someone dies, and someone is born, it’s all a cycle.
Whatever floats your boat. Electronic forums, whether train related or not, are by their very nature kind of transient experiences. The membership constantly changes, whether by additions or deletions. When the content or tone of a forum changes so that it no longer fits your needs it could very well be time to move on.
Fortunately there are a large number of model train related forums, ranging from very general to very specific in their scope, lots are scale specific, some deal only with a certain railroad. Each one has its own good points and negative ones, whether it be the amount of traffic, the tone of voice, or the amount (or lack) of moderation. You just need to look around to find one you feel comfortable in.
I’m still happy here. But then again I’m rather easy to please. I hope those of you who decide to move elsewhere find what your looking for.
I am quite happy to be here as well, despite the fact that there has been a number of “Hot Topics” lately. But, there is still a large number of information on this forum, and I don’t want to leave.
Dave, if you feel you want to leave, best wishes and good luck.[:)]
I enjoy this forum and as someone new to the hobby, I learn alot from it. Much to my wife’s chagrin I am a veteran channel flipper. I pick and choose the topics of interest and when I run into one with someone on their soapbox again, I just don’t follow the thread. Overall this is a pretty good group of people and very helpful.
Why the big announcement about leaving? I don’t understand. If not satisfied and disgusted, go. If you want to come back in the future, great. There are so many folks here that one or two leaving, for whatever reason, will hardly be noticed.
Any good board is going to go through cycles. There are going to be good times and there are going to be weird times. There will be posts and or posters that don’t follow the decorum of what you think should be.
Don’t read them and if they get in your face ignore them. I can usually tell within a sentence of two if the poster has anything worth my reading.
This is a good board. The good times are right around the corner. If you can’t wait it out, well, I hope you find better.
I wonder why those other forums are smaller? Or do I?
There were a few topics recently that I wanted to jump into with both feet but I knew that the topics were outside the range of this forum (so is this one so I will make it short) and that not everyone would appreciate my point of view.
It was hard to do but I refused to post and did not take another look at the threads even as they ballooned to many pages. It is called self restraint. I did not have much of it as a kid and it got me into a few bits of trouble. Even though it takes a real effort sometimes I practice it regularly now.
I come here to learn about model railroading. This is a very good place for that and anyone and every one that wants to do that is very welcome here. If anyone has an agenda different from model railroading they need to find the proper place for that.
Not sure what he’s talking about. Other forum boards I’ve been on never stick to a subject. Even within a post. They jokingly refer to it a post hijacking.
Why the big “hoopla” of an announcement??? Sounds like you’re asking for attention. Simple Solution: If you don’t like a forum, just don’t post… Pretty Simple. Dave, I’m sorry to seem less than friendly, but your thread comes off more of “whining”.
"Yo! Look everyone! I’m leaving! Yes, that’s right! [:-^] ta-dah ta-dah! [:-^][:-^] I’m going! Yep, that’s right I’m moving on! You read it right here! I’ve been too disgusted! Yep! Gonna Go! Yes sir! Gotta Go! Don’t beg me to come back! Not happening soon! You all reading this now, ain’t ya?! I’m-a-steppin-away! Here goes! Well? Aren’t you all going to respond?! Come on now! Before I really really really go to some greener pastures…
Well…Just make sure you look down where you step.
I’ve been on this forum a while. Large membership with people coming aboard and stepping off. Great topics, boring topics, off topics, super helpful topics, electronics, locomotives, scenery, trackwork, etc.
Been exploring. Sorry…This forum is still one of the best out there! That’s why there are so many members. Something right must be going on.
It seems the “regulars” realize this Antonio. I can look at the members
list at the bottom of the screen and pick out the ones that have been
here and know how to take the “problem” topics. These topics are usually
started by the “problem” members. (You know who you are)
I just read the latest reply on one of those topics and ask myself “Why
are you even reading this?” It’s like the old saying “it will all come out in
wash” and when it’s all said and done, the people who want to be here,
will still be here. Good luck and happy posting, Dav
Well Dave, sorry you feel that way. I for one, come to this forum every chance I can. Each time I learn something new, or get a chance to help someone, or just have some fun and a laugh or two. Frankly this is the best forum for trains I’ve seen out there and the place feels like home. Yeh, there are some squables from time to time, even a few here. Oh that’s at home, I mean. But I thoroughly enjoy the place. Have fun with your trains and good luck!
i must be awefully thick skinned , i don’t notice most of these problem or offensive posts that people talk about . maybe it’s just that i have read so much online stuff over the years that off-topic stuff just goes right over my head
there’s way too much good info here , and people who are helping others to think about going elsewhere . i’ve read a few other model railroading boards and the quality is there elsewhere , but not the quantity or the depth that there is here . or maybe i haven’t found the good places . hehe
