c’mon guys can we at least lay off the polls for a little while. everyday there is a new poll. I’m sure I am not alone when I say I dont care what color your house is, what kind of music you prefer, what kind of job, car or what ever else. You guys wonder why people are leaving the boards. I came here to talk trains not see poll after poll after poll. give it a rest guys and lets get back to trains
I think we need a poll on whether or not we’ve had enough polls. [:D]
YES!! I also follow several usenet newsgroups (such as rec.models.railroad), and one thing I like about them is the ability to filter out words, authors, etc. If we had this ability on this list, all we would have to do is mark any message that contained the word “Poll” for deletion or to be ignored. Wouldn’t that be nice!
I just skip over them, but my peeve that I’ve expressed in the past is that these endless, silly, waste of time, and mostly immature polls push other relevant discussions down the list so they might be missed.

there is lots of great information to be found on these forums. Yes, you have to dig through a little slop but that will never change. just read what topics interest you and leave the rest alone. If it is a stupid topic it will within an hour or so fall back onto the next page. I dont waste my time reading polls but its no big deal really. Just have fun and see what you can learn.
Some of them are junk, but some are interesting to know, and find out about the other people on the forum, age group for example. I agree that there are too many, one every week or two wouldn’t be so bad though.
If you look at the replies to allmost every poll that has been done lately all have at least 20 or more.So there must be a sizeable segment of this forum that dosn’t share your opinion.I neather like or dislike the sometimes non train related polls and or posts, but i think every member has the right to use the forum they way they want as long as they are within the guidelines. To me it is not a great inconvience to move to the next post, and usually the real good posts are allways on the front page anyhow by the amount of replies it has been recieving. The fact that this forum and this hobby has a great deal of youth,we should not alienate there less than prototypical posts and polls, while they grow, learn and become better modelers.I guess the fact that this is the general discussion forum means to me that any topic of general interest to the readers.
I think there are as many “Enough Poll” threads as there are polls.
A few of these already exist. They’re in the back somewhere.
I say polls are fine. If you don’t like 'em, skip over it. Simple.
i don’t mind polls as long as they are train-related
I agree.
Enough polls.
Enough topic titles like “look at this” and “help”.
Use the title to indicate what you need help with and what you want me to look at.

I always thought the polls are a nice feature for marketeers / advertisers / Kalmbach’s business-end customers. But come to think of it, I wonder how many marketeers or advertising strategists actually work for any of the model train manufacturers. Anyone?
I think polls are a good way to see where the hobby is headed and what is the hype this week then the next…just interesting to watch the trends. As far as the titles for some new topics…we do need to get creative.
So please let us know how a current poll "Whats your favorite railroad " will accompli***his goal?
Very few of the ill conceived polls are of any relevance to numbers in the hobby.

Hmmm, interesting…it was dead for exactly one year and breathes life yet again.[:)]
I was wondering how long it would take before someone noticed that!
Three are too many polls that have been along far too many times, and good ones are hard to come by. Perhaps this is why polls were disabled on the trains mag forum.
It demonstrates that at least someone is reading past posts in their search for answers rather than asking a question of the current group that’s active on this board.
Enough is enough. If u do not like polls then ignore them. There is no rule other than your own that u must answer them. Polls can be fun. Do not like them then do not read them.
Actually, have you noticed the rash of year old topics that have been brought to the front today? Quite a few by a certain forum member… Hmmmmmmmm…
I agree. There was one day I thought I was in Warsaw 'cause there were so many poles…er, polls. They seem to come in waves.

What do you do when you have some OT and you check on page 3 for something and find a pole that you misssed becuase it was shoved back there by OT, I will answer an older post even if its only a few days old. The OT post? I look right past them most of the time, but some people don’t, thats there opion though. The really sad part is when someone ask a question and no one answers it about MR or it gets one or 2 replies, because it was pushed back to the 4th page or 5th, or further. So it is basically missed because we have a OT that hangs on the 1st page for days on end. I try and Stick to the MR part of the forum, I dont mind some of the OT, but they do push out some of the good MR questions from time to time, oh well. I’ve learned that in this forum that MR is the second part of the forum. But I choose to just stick with MR part and may reply to an OT from time to time, but not often.
