Sierra Club shut down a “Frack” water train, killing millions of dollars of revenue for the village Painted Post, NY.
Fred Flintstone foot pedal vehicles en vogue.
To see an example of “Giving our kids the best planet we can”, look at any picture of a third world country.
Like California, Washington doesn’t want coal. To be more specific, just the part of the state in the I-5 corridor doesn’t want coal. Now that the problem is defined, the solution is so obvious I am surprised nobody is able to see it. Wire cutters. That’s right. Biggest diagonal cutters ever made. Cut the power lines going to that part of the state. If they don’t like coal, then why should they have any electricity sourced from coal? Redirect that power to the red counties. Let the eco-terrorists live like the Amish. Shut down the power plants within the I-5 corridor.
Except it would be worse than the Amish because unlike the Amish who know how to live without electricity from coal, the eco-terrorists wouldn’t know where to begin, starting with their not-so-smart phone batteries not getting charged.
What a group of morons.
We fired this nation for the better than three quarters of its existence on dirty and polluting coal. Yet, here we are 50 years later and there is no impact. Where is the pollution?
I am so sick of this movement that I desire a bumper sticker stating “Screw the Environment.”
Where there is a will, a way can be found to make coal burn MUCH cleaner! Let us get to it, the US is a net EXPORTER of coal!
How many years have those coal chunks been in the river?
They figure to shut the trains down bye forcing the RR to defend the massive and continuous litigation. of course, they know best (in their opinion).
They want green, currency that is!
I guess hauling it by truck is a better alternative. Oh wait, “environmental watchdogs” don’t want any human activity.
Interesting feedback. As an ardent railfan and science teacher of 20 years I am often conflicted by the potential environmental issues related to products carried by rail (and other modes as well). On one hand I really like watching freight trains (including coal drags) and have read a lot about the rich coal heritage here in the east… however, I also realize coal is the worst environmental offender pollution-wise of all fossil fuels. I agree that many environmental groups are “over the top” when it comes to defending their causes but I also believe that most are passionate about the environment. We all have an obligation to reign in the detrimental effects of our way of life in order to give our kids the best planet we can…
I understand that home water purification systems use charcoal filters. Ironic…
In all my years watching trains, I have never seen coal falling from the trains. Send the export trains to the Texas gulf coast. This is farther, but it will avoid the environmentalists, the Rockies, and the main lines already full of containers. It will also take advantage of an expanded Panama Canal.
Tim from Maryland is nothing more than a typical liberal that tosses out worn out phrases that cannot be substantiated.
Typical “no solutions” crowd. They are quick to tell you what they don’t want, but can’t tell you a source for “clean energy” that is suitable to replace coal. It takes 3000~10000 wind turbines to replace just one 2000mw coal plant. They would blight the landscape with bird blenders before they would burn an ounce of coal.
Don’t they keep saying that the coal pollutes the air when it’s burned? I didn’t know that it could pollute anything in it’s natural state. All I got from it working for a coal & oil company for 20 years was dirty clothes.
