Environmental report issued for segment of California high-speed project

Ok, so we looking at 2020?, 2030? Beijing- Shanghai HSR took 3yrs, 2 mos, 12 days (809miles). Even if we had 0 issues, we still couldn’t compete with that and not that I’m saying we are, it’s just too complicated here really, thank goodness the first continental RR didn’t have these issues, where would the RR be now if they would have had to deal with all this “stuff”?

China does what China wants to do because the people really don’t have a voice or very very little say in what gets done. When the Chinese government wants your land for a new high speed rail line, you’re only real alternative is to just take their buyout offer because protesting the will of the government might not end so well for you…

If we rid ourselves of these environmental requirements which go beyond common sense we could indeed compete with China and the world.

Mr. Davis: When President Nixon signed the EPA into existence Lake Erie was a polluted mess. Mission accomplished. Today, the EPA’s job is to hinder capitalism. Case in point: Somewhere in Iowa an old cross tie was unearthed as a plant expansion began construction. EPA required the construction dirt removed and replaced. Outcome? No plant expansion here. …efforts taken across the border. And, no common sense.

Now that Buck Owens has departed and Merle Haggard has moved north, can’t figure out a reason to take a high-speed train to Bakersfield.

In China their is no private ownership of land. The government doesn’t need to want the land, it already owns it. They offer a small amount of money and relocate people to apartments. That was how the west USA was in the 1860’s except the Indians didn’t get any offer.

Mr Norton. How do you know the environmental requirements go beyond common sense. President Nixon (GOP) thought they made perfect sense when he signed the bill in 1970 to create the EPA. Do you not remember the USA before that time.

I would that the environmentalists would want this built. The alternative is more highways and airports.

Yes, legal challenges are certain. China could have build the entire line long before California will finish the paperwork. And we scratch our heads and wonder why we can’t compete with China!
Still, it’s great to see progress.

The real issue is not the EIS but the court challenges to the process

Watching cali trying to get this done has become a big joke. And honestly it’s not funny. To many government regs means this never gets done in our lifetime.and if you look at where China had to build it’s BULLET train going though mountains and such , going though the central valley, you would think this could and should be a piece of cake. We suck when it comes to HSR. Period
