EOD CSX

I was just wondering if anyone else here has a reason why so many EOD’s seem to be not working. I listen to CSX when I can at night and it always seems like the EOD’s are not working and the poor crews have to scramble to try and find another one. I recently found some pics of a CSX auto train that ran into the back of a CSX iron ore train. All I read was that the EOD was not functioning. I did not post them becuse the engineer was Killed . Guess he was a pilot on the auto train with two other guys who were criticaly injured. Not sure when it happened though. I took video last week of a CN on CSX that had a “froze” axle way back in the train on one of the cars. that was way strange the train was dragging it and it was smoking and the car in front of it had a very bad flat spot on one wheel . the wheel was discolred and litt’ jumping up and down on the rail. He made it into the yard. Which is always good. gave my wife a scare though. the brakes did not look stuck either. GOD BLESS ALL and may he take care of you and keep you safe

O yea almost forgot. The CN train was way way long, that may explain it. Not sure if that would have triggered a hot box detector or if there is even one along that route. thye have hot box det’‘’ right next to my home and down the yard. last year I called the CSX emergency number right next to my house when a train iw as taking pics of at 4am had a lot of smoke and some flames coming off of a few cars. they were very nice and thankful I called. Train was Q506 on it s way into CSX stanley yard.

EOD? Sounds more like Explosive Ordnance Disposal than End Of Train Device.

Most commonly refered to as EOT.

My bad, whoops I met EOT… EOD did you serve in the military? I did, also my son is serving in the infantry. Just thought mabey you may have done your duty and served in the military? god bless. No big deal, thanks for your “proffesional” correction of my mistake.

I believe you may be referring to the rear end collision at Carlisle on the CSX Toledo Sub in 2001.

Never served in the military, but did work on a project where we got assistance from local USMC EOD personnel - interesting characters…

No worries on the typo, the juxtaposition of EOD and CSX was kind of amusing.

For “UXO” = “UneXploded Ordnance”. One of my daughter’s former boyfriends had a few years of a career of looking for the stuff at former military bases that were being converted to other uses - mainly by carrying or towing a Ground-Penetrating Radar rig. He found a pretty fair amount, too - but he’s a Marine who served in Iraq in Gulf War I, and then went on to get his Master’s in Geology with a thesis on volcanoes - so I suppose he was pretty comfortable with things that go “Bang !” and are real bright, hot, and smoky, etc. . . .

[:-,] (Pennsylvania’s 1988 “Act 101” recycling law excludes “ordinance materials” from one classification of allowable household recyclable materials - those municipal governmental enactments can be pretty dangerous, you know !)

Interesting about the derailment. I have lost a friend or two over the yrs on the RR. I weight lifted with a lot of local CSX and NS guys before the gym in oregon ohio closed. I lost one friend who ran into the back of another train. I even had one friend who was my bench press partener not show up to the gym for months only to find out when he return’d that his buddy was crushed at a local plant while switching covr’d hoppers between the wall and cars. My dad has way way to many sad storys that would make one cry just hearing about them. One story sticks to me and I still get emotional when I hear about it since I have suffered a lot in my life. He had a dear friend working the Chessie system “hump” back in the 70’s and he was rolled up by a rail car and scream’d for help while being chewed to parts while one watched and no one could help him. My dad said they had to stop working or should I say refuse becuse the RR back then wanted the show to go on even before they got all the body parts clean’d up. Another he was there when a friend was “cuplo’d” between cars and lived long enough well you get the picture or another friend who was swinging out froma cut of coal cars and went into a set of conrail engines and was clipp’d in half. I guess we can say that working on the RR is a very dangerous job , especialy back in the 60’s and 70’s into the 80’s. My unlces I am sure have the same storys but I never ask’d. I have all kinds of RR storys both good and bad could write a book. It is apparent that RRing is not all fun and political games and for sure the crews dont have time to worry about us rail fans. God Bless them

the conrail engines person I guess was still holding onto the cut of cars when they found him with his lower half gone. SAD SAD SAD.
