Epithet Creek track plan in Model Railroader

Hi,

I built an HOn3 version of Epithet Creek (MR track Plan) some 30 years ago. It was damaged in moving and I would like to build a new lighter weight module for it and the second module that was a terminal.

I have tried to locate the two track plans in the Magazine index without success. I think the name was Epithet Creek and was in the lat 1960s or early 1970s.

Does anyone recall these two track plans and know where they are? I have a complete set of MR from 1964 to 1988 (when I went to live steam) so all I need is the magazines where these two modules were published. Both were 96" x 30" and I think both were single page articles.

Thanks.

Doug

by the way, I just used “Epithet” as a title search term in the MR magazine index, came right up.

Hi,

Half the time it is knowing how to search for something.

Thanks.

Doug

I always loved those track plans. Although since I was in jr. high at the time I did not understand them. I never understood how they could be HO scale with the geometry presented. Had I comprehended narrow gauge it would have helped.

I consider these to be classic track plans that should be studied by anyone interested in general layout design. The two things that struck me was the piano factory and the coal yard. The piano factory just because it was unique and a bit obtuse. The coal yard because it easily demonstrated how and why the purpose of pushing a hopper car over an open area to unload. This is also a good example of how separate modules can stand alone or be connected together for a larger layout. After seeing these I always design free standing layouts with a track somewhere that can be used to extend the “world” beyond that one section.

You know there is also an complete index of the prior year in each March issue. All one has to do is pull the March issue of each year and look for Epithet.
