Equipment Exchange Forum?

Would an EE make sense here to buy and sell MR related items? Everyone could post including Model Railroader advertisers.

You can also use http://www.trainstotrade.com/ . I developed it to allow people to trade model railroad items on-line. You have the ability to post a picture, describe the item, describe what you want in return (if you know), and make offers to others through the system. Once the trade is completed you can rank the trade so that others know whether the people they are dealing with are honest and fair.

Best of all it is free.

Kevin, I’ll bookmark and keep an eye on it. Are any of the items for sale or is it trades only? Thanks.

Most of the items listed are mine, and I would be willing to trade for cash. But I usually just take that cash and buy something else for my layout. I started buying a little of everything until I decided to model Southern Railway and N&W in the mid 30’s. So now I am trying to trade the things that I have that do not fit that era for things that do.

One advantage here is that in addition to a “For Sale” page a “Wanted to Trade” page could be done. Ebay is $$$ only and many of us are like Kevin, we have things to trade that we got along the way that aren’t needed on our current railroads.

It wouldn’t work here. It would mean that would have to hav a dedicated modreator to make sure trades go as they should. If you have somthing that you would like to trad you got an web address above or you can contact someone offline. trading for me has always been a bad experience. You can never tell what your actually getting and trying to make things even ussualy takes to much work. It’s easier to get what you need from you lHS

I’ve said this before. I am moderator on a Cowboy Action Shooting board and we have a “Trader’s Tent.” It is very much self-governing and a closed community like here. People don’t rip each other off. Take a look.

Now cowboys live by the “Code of the West.” which basically means following the golden rule and the word is a bond. There is no rating system, but if there is a disagreement, everyone knows about it and it is usually settled fairly. I just sold two guns this week to get my Zephyr.

It is not as hard as all that to run. Been there done that.

Not needed here (and I doubt the moderators would do it anyway). There are a few good groups on Yahoo chat that do this already.

Although this forum is good, there are plenty of other really good ones around also.

Yeah, I’ve bought, sold and traded on another shooting site many times with no problems. Folks have been very fair minded and open about the condition of their items for sale or trade.

There’s always train shows but the internet would give such wide exposure to someone looking for a specific item.

The only concern I would have with having a trading/want/buy site on this forum is dispute resolution. I don’t know how many members are on this board, or for that matter how many would participate in the trading board, but eventually a dispute of some sort will arise. That is where eBay is nice, as they have the means to handle disputes.
