Equipment moving to Plant City museum, viewing platform Thursday
I’m excited to visit the museum and platform once everything is ready. I am ashamed to admit that I’ve lived in Florida my whole life and have never watched trains in Plant City! It will be nice to have a train watching platform that’s closer than Folkston, albeit with less train activity.
This platform should become very popular with photographers. Being located in the Southeast corner of the diamond it has good lighting for virtually all train directions as the sun moves around during the day. Folkston and Jesup, GA both have platforms are on the “darkside” of the trains (against the light) The 4 Amtrak moves (91 & 92 each direction)are at good times of the day here too. Hopefully the designers of the platform put the display equipment so it will not block the views and consideration was given to those who can not access the second story of the platform (lots of older railfan’s have trouble with stairs). Looking forward to checking this out this weekend.
I know Bob Willaford from our participation in Operation Lifesaver. This is a nice gesture on his part and one that will be appreciated by many including myself.

I built the display tracks and assisted in moving the locomotive and caboose into place last Thursday. I’m glad Mr. Willaford is choosing to donate these items to the city so they can be enjoyed for generations to come. The viewing platform is coming along nicely as well, and when everything is finished Plant City will have something to be very proud of. Anyone who chooses to make the trip to see it will not be disappointed.
What MODEL Whitcomb. This is poor reporting. It’d be like saying “an EMD road locomotive.”
It would be nice if we could get amtrak to add a stop for the Silver Star here so we can spend a day railfanning here for a few hours during the day and be able to return the same day to either Tampa or Lakeland.
