As I am a foreigner and also a rail fan living in the US, this question just poped up in mind a few seconds ago. Is there any Asian(-American) working as a railroad engineer or conductor? Have you guys ever seen them???

Places I know you will find them and even meet and talk to them are the Long Island Rail Road, Metro North, and the New York City Transit Authority (Newe York’s subway system) A few are even railfans.
Also on Metrolink, the LA area’s commuter rail service
At one point we had an entire crew of asian americans working together. One was a Vietnamese American (Engineer), another a Chinese American (Conductor) and the third was a Malaysian (Brakeman) who had more seniority than either of the other two…
They are all great guys although they no longer work together as the Malaysian guy retired.

I guess it’s just coincidence that I found this post above one titled “exotic sighting”!
Yes, they’re around, and have been for longer than I have (ask Zardoz how long I’ve been around!). One Filipino engineer that I knew for my entire career retired a while back, and there’s another Asian-american who’s got quite a few whiskers, too.
We’re sending a French-Chinese guy to Omaha for dispatcher training shortly.
Chinaman never smile[:)]
Anyway I did meet a Jamancan Conducter in Dewitt NY two weeks ago
i’m sure there are
No Asian engineers, but we do have a black, female engineer down here.
And she can run better than most of the “guys”…

When we are often recrewed by Chicago Terminal utility crews, I have seen a huge vareity of people. Male, female, all different ethnicities including the dispatchers as well.
Yes.
