Ethonal Plants

I would like to build an Ethonal plant, does anybody have any pictures of one?

Click this link for pics.

Thanks, this site is perfect to get some ideas.

Here are photographs of an ethanol plant under construction.

This a neat site. I like these photo.

One thing I’ve been looking for is a track map for an ethanol plant. Anybody ever seen one?

They recieve and ship unit trains of tank cars…that’s all i know, sorry!

That one photograph above gives a pretty good view of the tracks in that plant. If you follow the link in my first post, you can see the completed plant and where they load the hoppers and tank cars. However, even in the two ethanol plants around here there is quite a bit of difference in the track layout.

Not all do. In fact, the two ethanol plants out here ship no ethanol by rail, the haul is too short.

The photo shows the basic track layout for the place. The bottom is as far as the tracks go, about 3-4 car lengths of headroom. Towards the top all the tracks will come together up towards the main. That is a pretty big hill from the main down into the plant. The corn hoppers go inside the building to get unloaded. To the right of there is the tank loading-unloading track.

The longer tracks hold 25-26 cars. Not fun when you take 50-75 cars out there. Inbound corn, empty CHs and tanks. Outbound ethanol, dried distiller’s grain - used for animal feed, and empty CHs from the corn. The former Mineral Point main cuts diagonal across the upper right hand part of the photo. If there would have been about a mile of headroom, might be OK out there. By the current end of track a house is in the way.

Here’s one in Woodburry, MI on CSX:

If that doesn’t work, here’s the link: http://conrail-jon.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=467761

There’s also one in Garnet KS. have’nt got any pics yet but plan to, I model an ethanol plant

also in HO. The MECA is an alternate fuels company that is on an updated spur off of the BNSF

in the ficticious town of Faithhill MO.

Have’nt decided whether to scratchbuild or use a kit like Walthers ADM elevator etc.

Greenfield Ethanol just got clearance a few months ago to start building a plant in Johnstown ON, about 2 minutes (driving) from where I live. It’s no help now, but in a few years I could get you some good shots.

one way to find a track plan is to google on ethanol plants, find one that is currently in production. find the street address and then go to google maps and map it. if you’re lucky, you’ll get an overhead of the facility.

doing this, i found what looks like a plant in Pekin, IL (address is 1300 S 2nd st, Pekin, IL). It’s a rather large facility from the looks of it…

<> for a smaller one, check out 674 Westpark Ave, Huron SD. it’s a much smaller facility and seems to be still under construction from the photos

hope this helps

Well if you like. This Saturday I can go down to the Blair Ethonal plant and get some photos if you like. Let me know.
