I figured I’d ask this question here even though I don’t suppose I’ll get much help, but anyway:
Does anyone have any experience with European DCC systems, like Fleischmann or Roco? The latter, at least, is available reasonably cheaply where I’m from. There’s a complete technical documentation on the manufacturer’s home page, but I can’t really understand all the technobabble. I swear, it’s like watching Star Trek.
We had a Marklin DCC system donated to our club and wound up just throwing it all into the trash because it would work only with Marklin decoders, and none of its components were compatible with U.S. DCC systems; however, I have no idea if the brands you mention are similar or not.
Agamemnon, what is a token european? If you think you are the only european on this forum you’re mistaken. There are europeans from the UK (yes, they’re europeans too) from Germany, from France. from Italy and a heavy contributor from Sweden and as I’m from Holland. And the subject that all of us share is the love of american railroads. I once used the word exotic in the sense that they are vastly diffrerent from what we are used to in Europe. Building a american prototype layout is more challenging and time consuming than building a european layout because all the material that americans can buy either at a well stocked LHS or by mail order is often very hard to come by over here. I’m lucky that I live very near to a hobby shop that has a large but still limited stock of american prototype material but even then ordering detail parts may take 4-6 weeks. Of course this whole discourse has nothing whatsoever to do with Euro-DCC, so forgive me if I bored you.
No, not at all. I’m always partial to some repartee.
I’m actually not very keen on American prototypes at all, my first and only love being European diesels. I do feel your pain in lacking a hobby shop, model railroading is utterly dead in Finland these days. It’s become customary to order everything from online stores either here or in Germany and even dedicated model/hobby shops only pack the bare minimum of train stuff.
I wouldn’t be on this forum if only I could speak fluent German. It’s something of a requisite for many German sites.
The multiMAUS is compatible with X-Bus systems e.g. the Lenz Digital Plus System (X-Bus and XpressNet)and the HKE digital system. For more detailed information on connecting the multiMAUS to these systems, contact the respective manufacturer or consult a specialist or local dealer.
On a system controlled by the multiMAUS, you can use not only locomotives with ROCO locomotive decoders but also vehicles with decoders from other manufacturers, as long as they are in line with theNMRA / DCC standards."
So it seems the Roco system is DCC compatible and you can use any DCC decoders and you can also use the Maus controller with the Lenz DCC system.
Yes, I figured that much. Märklin’s is the only non-standard digital controller in the European market, although Fleischmann has a dual-protocol system that supports both DCC and FMZ decoders.
