European Equivalant To US N Scale

We are considering relocating to europe. I am in N scale and would like to know if the european track equivelant to US N scale which is 9 mm.

In the US and Europe N scale is 1:160. In the UK it is 1:148 however to my knowledge all run on the same guage track. Much like 00 scale in the UK that runs on the same guage track as HO.

Great. thanks for the information. I will be able to take all of my model railroad equipment and buildings with me.

Dear Future Traveller,

Having been in the same boat as you, albeit in the 80’s, I did bring along my Euro stuff to and later US equipment back from the USA.

With the return I did bring along a transformer, capacle to convert 220/230 volts to 110 volts AC as to be able to continue the MRC powerpacks I aquired during my stay…that was before DCC was in vogue.

Still using that set of controls, still enjoying the common rail return wiring…

N Scale’s name was selected specifically because “9” starts with N in most major European langauges (nine, neuf, nueve, neun, nove, negen, etc.).

Where did you end up moving to?

I have a coworker who just retired and she and her husband purchased a home in Portugal and will be moving there soon. Her husband is from the UK but she is born and raised here in the US. I would give it some consideration, but my wife, also born and reasied in the UK likes it here in the US, although we’ll probably need to move to a lower cost of living area when retirement comes.
