Hupac today announced their results for 2006 and traffic statistics for the 1st Quarter.
1st Quarter traffic is up 17 percent over an excellent 2006. For the first 4 months of 2007, traffic is up 19 percent over the same period in 2007. For the year 2006 traffic was up 17 percent over 2005, and is again on a pace to increase by the same percentage in 2007. Revenue is up 16.7 percent, and profits up 7.4 percent.
Since the year 2000, traffic is up 66 percent, road freight in Switzerland in the same period is down 16 percent, although some of this is due to higher capacity trucks.
I take it that the road freight statistics are via a per vehicle basis and not a tonnage basis, right? Otherwise how could road freight be down if per truck capacity is up?
Right it is on a per truck basis, although total truck tonnage is up a statistically meaningless amount (less than 1/10th of 1 percent). The Swiss (and most European Counties) count everything including cargo versions of what we call minivans.
