European trains

What are your favorite European model railroading websites?

Thanks in advance!

DJH

Anybody out there do German, Swiss, etc…

enjoy! [:)]

This is definitely the wrong place to post such a question. [:)] I would suggest you take a look at mailing lists such as the MarklinBandG on Yahoo groups.

I currently have a marklin layout myself but having grown disillusioned with Marklin, am in the process of switching to American outline two-rail.

My two favorite European railway web sites are World Railfans run by John Oxlade and Marklin users run by Juhan Palm.

Jack what are you aiming for inspiration for new models? how about a poll?

He is complying with MR’s rules, he’s not advertising, he’s asking for information and isn’t that what we’re about, sharing information? People can participate here even if they do work for a manufacturer.

As far as the actuall question goes, I think you’ll find that most of the model railroaders here on this web site follow US prototypes, there some definite exceptions, there’s one who models Japanese railroads, another Dutch tramways, etc.

Another generallity, ho and n are the predominant scales represented here with a few proponents of other scales and gauges.

To the question; Igrew up with the DB in my back yard, (army brat), but my favorite 2 are the DSB and the various British railways of the first half of the 20th century.

Sorry about that chief! Just asking a question. I’m getting into some European HO modelling lately and I’m curious about available info.

Hello Jack,

Not sure why the self appointed forum police had a go at your post, I can see nothing wrong with it.

Here are some British models running on my layout here in the US. If British OO scale is of interest then the web sites to look at are http://www.peco-uk.com/ http://www.hornby.com/ and Bachmann europe http://www.bachmann.co.uk/ I find that running a google search on Model Railways turns up quite a bit. I am very partial to British trains, but then I grew up there so I am biased!

Ah personal fun, Any particular country you’re interested in?

A wonderful scenic HOm RhB layout.

Good site to see what’s available modelwise.

I recommend the SNCF Society for fans of French and other European railroads/models.

I wonder if there is any true UK Models that will run and be sized to American HO scale? I know that Bachmann released a few sets over the years but I have yet to see a model outside of BLI/PCM for a potential foreign train.

Some how I doubt it Safety Valve, the UK is very much OO scale and while it will run on HO track the models do look oversized compared to true HO scale models. OO has been around for so long that I can’t imagine that there would be much of a market for HO scale British models.

There are some models out there - www.british-ho.com

There was even a Precision Scale brass model of Flying Scotsman!

I’d be partial to a streamlined Duchess (heresy to say, as an LNER enthusiast ;)) as I could almost run it legitimately in my 1940 Pennsy era - “Duchess of Hamilton” (masquerading as “Coronation”) was sent over for the World’s Fair.

Couldn’t make the link work…but it is interesting to know that there IS British outline HO!

Bucksco Don’t worry about the self appointed forum police…all you did was ask a legitimate question…that’s what people do here.

Ah, Jack, you cast out the hook to see what’s biting, eh?

New branch for G45?

Try http://mikes.railhistory.railfan.net/links/

Will give you links to more model and prototype web sites than you could shake a stick at.

For UK sites try http://www.irail.co.uk/

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

www.railwayz.co.uk is good. Also www.rmweb.co.uk is a site similar to this one but the emphasis is on UK railways. It is a great site. I am a huge fan of European trains. In a perfect world US diesels would run beside British HSTs, German ICE3s and French TGVs. Oh and the Eurostar would run to New York. Wait and the Alaskan Railway would become the Alaskan-Siberian Railway as it would make its way from Anchorage to Moscow. Ahhhh what a world that would be.
