Two very nice railroad videos displaying a peaceful use of drone technology. I’m all for them in this way.

However…I guess you can call me paranoid, but my employer wants to use them for package delivery, which is okay. My concern is that my company’s CEO is a multi billionare who seeks to become an emperor of sorts and isn’t wrapped too tight and could easily sell time on them as a surveillence video platform. Just a little unnerving. We’re going into a world that is becoming a bit too Orwellian.

Sorry for drifting off subject.

Thanks for sharing the link with us!

I tend to forget that I live in a rather beautiful country…

A drone, or quad copter with camera can be purchased at just about any hobby shop or online, so it’s not just the government or big business that can do this, anyone can.

Just for the record, Creech AFB, the military drone capital of the world, is just up the road from me - but I’ve never seen a drone over the built-up areas of Clark County.

As for package delivery by drone:

  • Most package destinations are located in urban areas.
  • Most major urban areas are no-fly zones for light aircraft and VFR flight.

I’m afraid the FAA can, and will, stand by its, "NO commercial drones,’ rule - with precedent on its side, at least in urban areas.

As for Orwellian, when I find a drone hovering in my bedroom, I’ll worry about it - right after I take that thing out of the air and stomp the wreckage.

The scene from the drone at the 3:50 time mark in the video from Germany makes me think the Deutsche Bundesbahn has started using prefab track sections with the molded plastic ballast!

You are not that far off with your remark about prefab track sections. Deutsche Bahn (the Bundes… has been dropped 1994) is actually using pre-assembled track sections when refurbishing track. There is a prototype for just anything, even sectional track…

Or better yet, just close the door and wait for the battery to die. …result: free drone!
