Every time I walk into the hobby store...

I walk out…broke!!

That place is dangerous, I think I drop into Caboose hobbies (Denver) like 2 times a week lately! LOL

What do you do?

Every time I walk into the hobby store, my cell phone rings, and it’s my wife asking me where I am. Then she asks if I have any money to stop at the grocery for a few necessaries… [sigh]

Doah!!! [B)]

I don’t have a wife, but my dog is out food.

I Know what you mean, Motley. I used to live in Denver 'til four years ago. I do come back there every Christmas to see family and I make sure at least one visit to Caboose is fit into the trip. I really miss that place. What I like even better is Mizell’s which is in the west side of town (76th & Kipling, I believe, or maybe 76th & Federal, I can’t remember) I never get time to go out there when I’m in town though. I’m spoiled; here in Boise there are only three LHS’s but none of them specialize in trains. Before I lived in Denver, I lived in Dayton, Ohio. Now that (Dayton-Cincinnnati) area REALLY has the hobby stores! far more train shows in Ohio too, and good ones.

My Eye’s Bug Out, And My Tounge hit’s the floor…And when I leave I’m a few Dollars lighter

That’s me too…it’s like she has ESP.[(-D]

I live around the corner from Becker’s in New Brighton and I walk in way too often (sometimes daily). People ask me how much I spend on trains, and all I can answer is all of it. I love to see what is new. He loves it when I get a little extra job, because he knows he will get the money.

…I ask if they stock a particular item, and they reply, “No, but we can order it.”

Then I walk out.

At least you have one. I’ve lived in both Colorado, Dayton, and Sunnyvale. All three had great hobby shops. I’ve been in Caboose many times. Now there isn’t a decent hobby shop within a hundred miles. Everything is internet. Easy to order, but still not the same as going in the store and just absorbing the feel of the place.

Even when I was a kid years ago, there were move hobby shops available in many part of the country. They may not have been as big as Caboose or some of the others, but they were available for kids to drool in. It wasn’t internet orders that killed them, it was the big box stores who soon as the local competition is killed off, drop those product lines. Wonder why more kids don’t go into a hobby, be it trains or model cars or whatever? Because if it isn’t carried in Walmart, 98% of the kids in this country will never even know it exists.

…I walk out with stuff and a full tank of gas.

The gas station is 2 doors down from the hobby shop, and gas is 5 cents per gallon cheaper than in my neighborhood.

I want to buy at least two or three Athearn/MDC or Intermountain RTR Freight Cars or at least a magazine.

While I’m at it,I want to give a shout out to Hobby World in Fort Worth.[8D][#welcome]

Dropped into Just Trains last week to purchase two different sizes of brass tubing needed for smokestacks on a boiler house and blacksmith shop under construction. Expecting to spend less than $10, I left spending nearly $90 after impulse purchases including books on the Petaluma and Santa Rosa Railway and the Sacramento Southern Railroad, MRP 2010, and Woodland Scenes’s Chip’s ice truck. LHS owner Joan was all smiles and giggles when I explained the situation.

Thankfully for my bank account, I don’t usually exit the shop spending 10 times my expectation.

I get a job! Seriously, the last two visits to the hobby shop my phone rang and it was people looking to get work done(I’m a painting contractor). I even mentioned it to the guy at the hobby shop. Its getting slow again, so I think I’ll visit the LHS soon.[;)]

I go to the hobby shop to buy supplies. The shop has mostly airplanes and cars, but that’s a good thing because I can buy paint, brushes, glue, and scratchbuilding materials. Or if I need couplers or wheels the hobby shop’s small train department usually has them too.

I try to go int with good intentions and we all know what road is paved with good intentions. The other day I took a loco in for a minor repair and ended up spending $250 two new ones. I rest my case…

I have applied to Obama administration for a stimulus loan!!!

Help my co worker is into trains and he tells me what he bought on the weekends it is very hard for me so I let my wife go out with her sister and buy what she wants I even let her book trips for the us tomorrow I go to the store! rambo1…

oh and the trip is to nycity any good trainstores there?rambo1…

I walked into the local hobby shop today to get 3 peices of flextrack. Nice cheap visit right? Well it was until I found that bulk pack of Kadee # 5’s. Then I started thinking “HMM, I could convert, this car, and that car, and…” Needless to say a >$10 visit turned into a <$40 visit in a matter of seconds. Apparently this happens to alot of us[:D].

If I can get out of a hobby shop (even Hobby Lobby) for less than $30, then it is going to be a great day.
