The link above is from a discussion Thread from 2010 referencing the Mack (Truck-built) Locomotives
[You can also ‘Google’ “Mack Locomotives?” There is also kind of a Paul Harvey rest of the story on the fate of two early Mack locomotives (#4 & #5 ) and how they were saved by the McHugh Family of Fairless Hills, Pa. from the scrappers.]
Hi-Rail hardware can be fitted to virtually anything that moves. When you have to deliver concrete to a place that is only accessable by rail - it’s the only thing to do.
I’m surprised they used a Mack mixer truck to mix and distribute concrete in the subway tunnels. When they were relaying the IRT express tracks on the west side of Manhattan by my apartment, they used a bunch small concrete mixers which were hauled in and out on flat cars.
Be thankful they were not laying asphalt!
Imagine the smell, heat and all that.
Actually in some cases, the smell of hot asphalt is an improvement over the smell of garbage, urine and vomit, especially on a hot humid day. [:-^]
