Ex-Conrail Engine Question

I discovered that the local shortline has added a new locomotive to its roster. It is CSX #1973. Because CSX sold it, I can’t find any info from online rosters. I believe that it is a GP38. Is this correct? If anybody just had its old Conrail number that would really help me out.

I don’t know a whole lot about frame or serial numbers, but it did have SRL19632 on the rear left truck. I don’t know if that number helps or not, but I’d appreaciate any info that any of you have on this old engine.

CSXT 1973 was the former CR 7874. It was off the CSX roster by the end of 2000, as were all pre-Dash-2 GP38s.

which line is she on?

Its actually on the Great Walton’s sister line, the Hartwell. I was up there a few weeks ago and saw it. It was sitting in Bowersville just off of the Hartwell spur at the time. I talked to the guy who I see a bunch of maintence on the locos. He was busy grinding the wheels. I also saw it up in Lavonia yesterday outside of that feedmill that seems to be the Hartwell lines biggest customer.

I couldn’t find it listed on any of the Hartwell rosters either. They have the CNW, RF&P, Bessemer & Lake Erie, Rio Grande and whatever that green repaint is that is trapped in Hartwell by all of the TTX cars. I assume that it is a realitivly new purchase, and that’s why I wanted some history. BTW thanks CShaveRR!

dont know if its a recent purchase, I have never even been up there so I have not a clue of what thing even look like up there. We also have a CNW GP7?9? in social. neat how much steel is grinded off those wheels.
