ExactRail HO scale Milwaukee Road 40-foot rib-side boxcar
Two thoughts:
First, many railroads’ boxcars really got around the country (more than open hoppers, for instance), and this was certainly true of the Milwaukee’s rib-sided cars.
Second, I wish the review had specified the differences between this model and InterMountain’s similar HO car, which also has separate ladders and grab irons. I think that on one the ribs go all the way to the ends of the sides and on the other they don’t; the Milwaukee Road had both types.
$34.95 for one car! sorry to rich for my blood…
Does anyone else believe Exact Rail asks too much $$ for their cars?
A wee bit too expensive for my railroad! It is very nice however!
Nice, but I am modeling the Civil War era and am having trouble finding box cars from that era.
I agree that the price seems a bit stiff. I love the Road, but my pike is in the East. I already have more Road cars than I should! But the ribs are great!
Yes, their prices are a bit high. I guess these are for the Rich and Famous.
Same price range as the Kadee cars. Highly detailed, excellent models. But I can not afford to buy too many of them.
I agree with Daniel. Many of these cars rolled though town. I would get a few if the price was cut in half. I have not examined the car up close but the car looks very nice.
I tend to agree with some of the others. These models are very nice and super detailed, but can they find a way to make them more affordable? Perhaps the manufacturer including super detail parts in the box for the modeler to apply or something? I haven’t gotten one yet, but the proto 2000 time saver kits seem like a great idea to bridge the gap between long, tedious assembly and affordability with manufacturers having to hire extra labor for a completed model and passing the cost to the customer. Anyway, I’ll probably have to wait for a sale or close out for this one.
Love it, but the cost? ouch. Seems like several manufacturers are making really nice cars, but very expensive.
I’m originally from South Dakkota and I saw some of these cars while growing up. I am starting on my first permanent layout - the Milwaukee, of course, and would love a fleet of these.
While I would love to have a trainful of these cars, my banker does not agree with me and the damage it would do to my budget.
They do look great though!
Too bad the run was sold out by time I saw the magazine review. I appreciate limited runs if they will provide us with items not otherwise available, but when they’re sold out before the public gets wind of them it’s frustrating! Why bother to do a product review in the magazine?
Too $$, THe price almost made me not even read the rest of the review.
Looks like a nice car. Intermountains car was good also and like most models I dont pay MSRP. This car will be 25 to 28 dollars at the shows. While still plenty its great to see accurate models.
