Excellent coverage of Sunset Route Two-Tracking and Colton Crossing project

K.P.:

I must complement you, and thank you for the extensive, detailed coverage of the Colton Crossing project and the Sunset Route Two-Tracking. I joined this community blog just to pass on my thanks to you.

Sitting here in Washington, DC, some 2,500 miles from Colton, CA, I was searching the web last winter hoping to find updates and photos of the big project. I was fortunate to find your superb blog and have been going back over previous entries (and what a lot of info to catch up on!).

To that end, I have gained much insight into UP’s various projects to speed up traffic and increase volume. Your information, photos, discussion, and your dedication to document the changing face of the Sunset Route is most appreciated!!

I thank you for your depth of content and the wide scope of your excellent coverage! I wish I had your opportunities to spend time near these projects in CA, AZ, and NM. (I have even added a Signal Department to my N-scale Southern California layout! Thank you for the idea!).

All my best to you and your fellow contributors for the New Year ahead! 2013 should bring big operational changes to UP’s Sunset Route!

Sincerely,

John Simpkins-Camp

Wash, DC

Thank you, John!

You might be interested to know I was out gallivanting around yesterday, Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the Colton to Highgrove to Pomona area of Southern California, and there is much to report for the “Sunset Route Two-Tracking Updates” thread. Watch for a report in the next few days.

A new commuter train thread is in the works, about a commuter service that will have an effect on some Sunset Route trains in Southern California. You might be interested in that too.

There was a track-laying train in the old Colton yard yesterday, and I have no idea what that was about.

So, there are plenty of things to keep us occupied … and I hope your armchair in Washington D.C. finds you satisfied with what you can read about on the many happenings right now on the Sunset Route.

Take care,

K.P.
