Hello,
Just finished this informative film showing the boiler wash of a B–R Class 5, 73020 locomotive “Booking on the shed”.
“The fire dropper knocks-up the catchers”— I just love the Queen’s English…
What I find curious, having performed a few boiler washouts myself (look how easily their washout plugs come out!) concerns the washout plugs in the front flue sheet. I was not aware the Brits used these and I’m not aware of any State-side locos with front flue sheet washout plugs.
Does anyone have any recollection of a North American locomotive with washout plugs accessed from inside the smokebox?
Regards, Ed
