Excessive Weathering Illustration

Too much paint thinner I think.

Certainly looks like the bare metal wasn’t prepped very well. It actually looks kind of scary, like something out of a horror movie.

I wonder how their track maintenance is?

Dave

That is the worst looking locomotive I have seen. It looks like it is going to be scrapped it is so bad.

Actually a little menacing looking…sort of like the truck in the movie ‘Duel’.

That would win an ugly locomotive contest.

And I thought that model railroaders overdo it. Guess there is a prototype for everything including a poor weathering job![(-D]

Enjoy

Going by the caption, this loco had been deadlined with engine and truck issues for months. I wonder if it was repaired, or was the Clinton Terminal really desperate…

Chuck (Modeling Central Japan in September, 1964)

Chuck, I believe months…is an understatement. [:-^]

Take Care! [:D]

I would have not bothered with uploading a photo since that engine is to embarrassing to look at.Come to think of it I won’t have bothered taking a photo of it.Yuk!

Actually, I think it looks like a chocolate and caramel sundae.

And I though CF7s were pretty ugly…

I didn’t click on the link as I don’t have the patience but allmost all model railroading weathering is overdone and looks like (well I’m not allowed to say what it looks like.)

And then the guy is so proud of it he posts 20 pictures of it on he forums.

Must be an extreme low budget operation. No doubt the same guy got hold of the hopper car behind the engine too.

Charlie

Dennis,That CF7 isn’t a model but,a real locomotive.

Yeah, its ugly…You’re better off not clicking on that link.

I had no idea Hunter Harrison had purchased the Clinton Terminal.

Not as ugly as a certain SP tunnel motor I encountered several times, a product of the requirement to use water based primers and paint and SP’s lack of upkeep resulted in one sad speciman with peeling primer mixed with rust, grime and probably some vestiages of scarlet and gray, I suspect it was mechanically unfit as well, as I always encountered it dead in train, it had a not so distant cousin in the ugly on the SP department in one Kodachrome SD40 rebuild that derailed and rolled down an embankment, suffering a crushed firemans side cab and severe long hood sheet metal damage. By god if I didn’t encounter this same unit several months later sans all hood doors and cab glass in the same condition restricted to trailing unit status only and under power in helper service, always amazed me that some Fed inspector hadn’t condemmed it!

Dave

I like it. It’s a tough old bird that won’t quit.

Sandblast and a paint job, she’s good as new. But still ugly.

Seems they may have used water from the Great Salt Lake to wash this engine.
