Mr. Carlin is exactly correct about the nomenclature regarding LAUPT. If those writing the little newswire blurbs did a bit of homework, they would be both informative and accurate as a result.

No Further West…not exactly. For Santa Fe and UP…true but SP trains heading for San Francisco and West Oakland about 400 miles or so of westward journey in front of them.
And LAUPS (Station) is a lot younger, though the building is from 1939 . It opened as LAUPT (Terminal) and I don’t know. when it transformed.
Too nuanced, I suppose.

Thanks Austin,
Did we try to tell folks that an inaccurasy or distortion would open an artery or:
Were we suggesting that sources could intentionly or innocently,
say or suggest that?
Thank you again, Austin
more accurate, informative…Austin, grade the reporter, please?

It’s great that the central library is hosting an exhibit about LAUPT. Like Mr. Carlin, I wondered, as I read this article, how any informed writer could refer to the terminal as a station. But then, Grand Central Terminal is also commonly referred to as a station. I guess the general populace doesn’t really care one way or the other. However, I would have expected Trains Magazine to offer a corrective footnote or something.
